      Bonnie LevineAug 15, 2025
If your Fridgemaster Refrigerator isn't working, first ensure the power cord is properly plugged into the outlet. Then, check the fuse or circuit of your power supply, replacing it if necessary. If the ambient temperature is too low, try setting the chamber temperature to a colder level. Also, remember it's normal for the freezer not to operate during the defrost cycle, or shortly after being switched on, to protect the compressor.

Overview

This document describes the Fridgemaster Built-in Larder Fridge, model MBUL60138E, providing essential information for its safe and effective use, installation, and maintenance.

Function Description

The Fridgemaster Built-in Larder Fridge is designed for domestic household use, primarily for keeping foodstuffs and beverages cool. It operates on a single-phase alternating current of 220-240V/50Hz. The appliance is intended for use in various environments, including staff kitchen areas, farmhouses, hotels, motels, bed and breakfast establishments, and catering applications. It is not suitable for storing explosive substances or for freezing foodstuffs. The refrigerator utilizes isobutene (R600a) as a refrigerant, a natural gas known for its environmental compatibility, which is flammable. The appliance features a controller part for temperature management, storage shelves, crisper boxes for fruits and vegetables, and various door racks for bottled drinks, eggs, and other packaged foods.

Usage Features

The appliance offers several features to optimize food preservation and user convenience.

  • Temperature Control: The refrigerator's temperature can be set between 2°C and 8°C using the "TEMP" button on the display panel. For initial use, a setting of 4°C is recommended. The display panel shows the current temperature setting and will turn off after about one minute if no buttons are pressed.
  • Power Function: The "POWER" button allows users to turn the appliance's cooling function on or off by pressing and holding it for 3 seconds. When the power function is off, the refrigerator stops cooling, and no food should be stored inside.
  • Super Cool Function: The "SUPER" button activates the super cool function, which rapidly cools the refrigerator to 2°C. This feature helps to refrigerate food quicker, lock in vitamins and nutrients, and keep food fresh for longer periods. The super cool function automatically switches off after 6 hours but can be manually deactivated by pressing the middle part of the button, returning the fridge to its previous temperature setting.
  • Door Alarm: The appliance is equipped with a door alarm that activates if the refrigerator door is left open for over 1 minute. The alarm icon will light up and flash, accompanied by a buzzing sound that beeps 3 times per minute for 10 minutes. Closing the door cancels the alarm. The "ALARM" button can also be pressed to stop the alarm and turn off the icon.
  • Storage Compartments:
    • Door Racks: These are suitable for storing eggs, canned liquids, bottled drinks, and packaged food. They can be adjusted by pulling them in the direction of the arrows and repositioning them as needed. Users are advised not to overload the door racks with heavy items.
    • Crisper Box: Designed specifically for storing fruits and vegetables, helping to maintain their freshness.
    • Refrigerator Chamber Shelves: The refrigerator chamber contains shelves for storing food that does not require freezing. These shelves can be removed for cleaning.
  • Food Storage Recommendations:
    • Hot food should not be placed directly into the refrigerator or freezer to avoid increasing internal temperature and compressor workload.
    • Food should be covered or wrapped, especially if it has a strong flavor, and placed properly to allow free air circulation.
    • Meat (all types) should be wrapped in cling wrap and placed on the glass shelf above the vegetable drawer, adhering to manufacturers' storage times and use-by dates.
    • Cooked food and cold dishes should be covered and placed on any shelf.
    • Butter and cheese should be wrapped in airtight foil or plastic film wrap.
    • Milk bottles should have a lid and be stored in the door racks.
    • Carbonated or fizzy drinks should not be placed in the freezer compartment as they can explode due to pressure.
    • Pre-packed frozen food should be stored according to the manufacturer's instructions.
    • The appliance is not suitable for freezing foodstuffs.

Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning and proper maintenance are crucial for the appliance's longevity and hygienic operation.

  • Cleaning:
    • Before any maintenance, the appliance must be switched off, and the mains plug disconnected from the socket to prevent electrical shock.
    • Exterior Cleaning: The exterior surfaces, including doors, handles, and cabinet, should be cleaned regularly with a mild detergent and wiped dry with a soft cloth. Water should be sprayed onto the cleaning cloth, not directly onto the appliance surface. Abrasive cleansers, metal objects, steam cleaners, ethereal oils, organic solvents, or bleach should not be used as they can damage the surface or cause fire.
    • Interior Cleaning: The interior should be cleaned regularly, ideally when food stocks are low. A weak solution of baking soda and water can be used, followed by rinsing with warm water and thorough drying before replacing shelves and baskets.
    • Defrosting: Although the appliance automatically defrosts, frost may accumulate on interior walls if the door is opened frequently or for extended periods. If frost becomes too thick, food and accessory baskets should be removed, the appliance unplugged, and doors left open to accelerate defrosting. After defrosting, the interior should be cleaned and dried completely before switching the appliance back on. Sharp objects should not be used to remove frost.
    • Door Seals Cleaning: Door seals should be kept clean to prevent sticky food and drinks from causing them to stick to the cabinet or tear. They should be washed with a mild detergent and warm water, rinsed, and thoroughly dried before the appliance is powered on again.
  • LED Light Replacement: If the LED light is damaged, it must be replaced by a competent person. The process involves unplugging the appliance, removing the light cover, pulling out the LED light while pressing the connector latch, replacing it, and recovering the light cover.
  • Disposal: When disposing of the appliance, it should not be treated as household waste. Packaging materials are recyclable and should be disposed of in appropriate waste collection containers. Before discarding the appliance, the main plug should be pulled out, and the power cord cut off. Refrigerant and insulation gases must be disposed of professionally at an authorized waste disposal center, ensuring the refrigerant circuit tubing is not damaged.
  • Long-Term Storage: If the appliance is to be switched off for an extended period, all food should be removed, the power plug disconnected, the interior cleaned and dried thoroughly, and the doors wedged open slightly to allow air circulation and prevent mold development.

Installation Considerations

  • The appliance should be positioned away from heat sources such as stoves, radiators, direct sunlight, fires, or heaters.
  • Adequate air circulation around the appliance is essential to prevent overheating.
  • The back of the product should not be too close to a wall to avoid touching warm parts (compressor, condenser) and prevent fire risk.
  • The mains plug must be accessible after installation.
  • It is advisable to wait at least four hours after unpacking before connecting the appliance to allow oil to flow back into the compressor.
  • The appliance must be fixed in accordance with instructions to avoid instability.
  • The door can be reversed from right to left if required by the installation site. This process involves removing and reattaching hinges and covers, ensuring the appliance is unplugged from the mains during the procedure.
