How to fix a Friedrich ZStar ZQ05 that does not start?

If your Friedrich air conditioner doesn't start, try these steps: ensure the plug is fully pushed into the outlet; check the house fuse/circuit breaker and replace the fuse or reset the breaker if needed; if a power failure occurred, turn the mode control to Off, and when power is restored, wait 3 minutes before restarting to prevent tripping the compressor overload; make sure nothing is blocking the front of the unit; turn the knob to a higher setting for maximum cooling; clean the filter every 2 weeks; allow time for the room to cool down when first turned on; check for open furnace floor registers and cold air returns; set the vent to the closed position; or refer to the section on 'Air Conditioner Freezing Up'.
