Overview

This document is a Use & Care Manual for an Electric Range, specifically models with an ES340 Control, Self-Cleaning Oven, and Ceramic Cooktop.

Function Description:

The electric range is a cooking appliance designed for both surface cooking and oven baking/broiling. It features a ceramic cooktop with radiant surface elements and a self-cleaning oven. The ES340 control system provides electronic management for oven functions and includes a kitchen timer. The range is equipped with a Speed Bake™ Cooking System on some models, which utilizes a fan to circulate heat for faster and more even cooking. The self-cleaning function uses high temperatures to eliminate soils, reducing them to a fine ash.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Oven Temperature Range: 170°F to 550°F (77°C to 287°C).
  • Self-Clean Cycle Times: Shorter 2-hour cycle (for lighter soils) and longer 3-hour cycle (for heavier soils).
  • Oven Racks: Adjustable interior oven racks, with some models including a Roasting Shelf.
  • Oven Light: 40-watt appliance bulb.
  • Cooktop Elements: Various sizes including 6" Single Radiant Element, 5-7" Dual Radiant Element, 9" Single Radiant Element, 6-9" Dual Radiant Element, and 12" Single Radiant Element (specific elements vary by model). A Warming Zone Radiant Element is also available on some models.
  • Control System: Electronic Oven Control with Kitchen Timer, featuring pads for Speed Clean, Clock, Bake Time, Bake, Broil, Clean, Timer On/Off, Start Time, Clear/Off, and Oven Light. Up and Down Arrow pads are used for adjustments.
  • Safety Features: Anti-tip bracket (included), Hot Surface Indicator Lights, Element On Indicator Lights, Oven Lockout feature, and a 12 Hour Energy Saving feature for the oven.

Usage Features:

  • Surface Cooking:
    • Control Knobs: Push in and turn to select desired heat setting (LO, SIM, MED, HI).
    • Cookware: Use flat-bottomed cookware that matches the element diameter for efficient cooking. Undersized utensils can expose heating elements.
    • Element On Indicator Lights: Glow when a surface element is turned ON.
    • Hot Surface Indicator Lights: Glow when any surface cooking area is hot and remain ON until the cooktop has cooled to a moderate level.
    • Dual Radiant Surface Elements (some models): Allow selection of inner coil only or both inner and outer coils for different pan sizes.
    • Warming Zone (some models): Designed to keep hot cooked foods at serving temperature (LO, MED, HI settings). Foods should be covered. Not recommended for heating cold food or using plastic wrap.
  • Oven Cooking:
    • Arranging Racks: Always arrange oven racks when the oven is cool. Recommended rack positions are provided for broiling, baking, and roasting.
    • Baking: Program oven temperature from 170°F to 550°F. Preheat indicator light turns OFF when the desired temperature is reached.
    • Speed Bake™ Cooking System (some models): Uses a fan for faster, even cooking and browning. Reduces cooking time by 25% for roasting and recommends reducing oven temperature by 25°F for baking. Best for multiple rack baking (positions 2 & 5 for 2 racks).
    • Broiling: Arrange oven rack while cool. Select HI or LO broil setting. Preheat broil element for 3-4 minutes for optimum browning. Use broiler pan with insert. Oven door should be open to the broil stop position.
    • Timed Bake: Programs the oven to begin baking immediately and shut off automatically after a set time.
    • Delayed Timed Bake: Programs the oven to start baking at a later time and shut off automatically.
    • Continuous Bake: Overrides the 12 Hour Energy Saving feature for extended baking.
    • Oven Lockout: Locks the oven door and control pads to prevent accidental operation.
    • Oven Light: Automatically turns ON when the door is opened, or can be manually operated.
    • Temperature Adjustment: The oven temperature can be adjusted up or down by 35°F (17°C) in 5°F steps to compensate for cooking hotter or cooler than displayed.

Maintenance Features:

  • Self-Cleaning Oven:
    • Preparation: Remove broiler pan, utensils, and aluminum foil. Remove excessive spills with hot, soapy water. Do NOT use oven cleaners or protective coatings. Do NOT clean the oven door gasket.
    • Operation: Select 2-hour (Speed Clean) or 3-hour (Clean) cycle. The door locks automatically. "CLn" appears in the display.
    • Post-Clean: Wipe away residue or powdered ash with a damp cloth after the oven has cooled and the "LOCK" light has gone out.
    • Oven Racks: Can be left in during self-clean, but their color may dull. Lubricate with wax paper or salad oil after cleaning for easier gliding.
    • Bake Element: Can be tilted up 4-5 inches for easier cleaning of the oven bottom.
  • General Care & Cleaning:
    • Aluminum (Trim Pieces) & Vinyl: Use hot, soapy water and a cloth.
    • Painted and Plastic Control Knobs, Body Parts, Decorative Trim: Use hot, soapy water and a cloth. For difficult soils, apply liquid detergent for 30-60 minutes. Do NOT use abrasive cleaners. Remove knobs by pulling straight off.
    • Stainless Steel, Chrome Control Panel, Decorative Trim: Clean with hot, soapy water and a dishcloth. Do NOT use cleaners with high concentrations of chlorides/chlorines or harsh scrubbing cleaners. Use cleaners specifically for stainless steel.
    • Porcelain Enamel Broiler Pan and Insert, Door Liner, Body Parts, Warmer Drawer: Gentle scouring with a soapy scouring pad. For difficult spots, use ammonia-soaked paper towel. Do NOT use spray oven cleaners on the cooktop.
    • Oven Racks: Clean with mild, abrasive cleaner or leave in during self-clean (see above).
    • Oven Door: Clean top, sides, and front with soap & water. Use glass cleaner on outside glass. Do NOT immerse in water, spray water into vents, or use abrasive cleaners. Do NOT clean the oven door gasket.
  • Ceramic Glass Cooktop:
    • Consistent Cleaning: Essential for maintenance. Use cooktop cleaning cream (supplied).
    • Metal Markings: Remove immediately after cooktop cools using cleaning cream.
    • Cookware: Use clean, flat-bottomed cookware. Do NOT slide metal or glass across the cooktop.
    • Light/Moderate Soil: Apply cooktop cleaning cream with a paper towel or non-abrasive plastic pad.
    • Heavy/Burned-on Soil: Apply cleaning cream, rub with non-abrasive plastic pad. If soils remain, carefully scrape with a metal razor blade scraper at a 30-degree angle.
    • Plastic/High Sugar Content Spills: Remove immediately from hot surface with a razor blade scraper or metal spatula to prevent permanent damage.
    • Precautions: Do NOT use abrasive cleaners, scouring pads, harsh cleaners (bleach, ammonia, oven cleaners), dirty sponges/cloths, or aluminum foil on a hot cooktop. Do NOT cook directly on the cooktop. Do NOT drop heavy objects.
