Overview

This document is a Use & Care Manual for a Frigidaire dishwasher, providing comprehensive information on its operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.

Function Description:

The Frigidaire dishwasher is designed for washing and drying dishware, pots, pans, casseroles, and silverware. It utilizes a "Tower Wash System®" which features a single, rotating arm with a telescoping set of wash jets to target the upper rack, ensuring thorough cleaning. The dishwasher operates on regular house current (120V, 60Hz) and requires a dedicated 15-ampere fuse or circuit breaker (20-ampere if connected with a food disposer). It includes various wash cycles and drying options to accommodate different soil levels and user preferences. The appliance is equipped with a thermostat to ensure water is heated to the proper temperature for optimal cleaning and drying.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Power Requirements: 120V, 60Hz.
  • Circuit Breaker: 15-ampere (20-ampere if with food disposer).
  • Water Pressure: Hot water supply line must provide water pressure between 20 and 120 psi.
  • Recommended Water Temperature: At least 120°F (49°C) for optimal results.
  • Water Usage (Approximate):
    • Heavy Wash: 5.2 gal. (4.4 imp. gal. / 19.8 Liters)
    • Normal Wash: 4.4 gal. (3.6 imp. gal. / 16.5 Liters)
  • Cycle Times (Approximate, includes dry time):
    • Heavy Wash: 68 minutes
    • Normal Wash: 64 minutes
    • Drying/Plate Warmer: 14 minutes
  • Detergent Dispenser Capacity: Holds enough rinse aid for 35 to 140 washes, depending on the dial setting.

Usage Features:

  • Wash Cycle Selection:
    • Heavy Wash: For heavily soiled items with dried-on or baked-on soils.
    • Normal Wash: For daily, regular use to completely wash and dry up to a full load. This is the recommended cycle for everyday use.
  • Drying/Plate Warmer: An additional dry period that can be added after a cycle for warm, dry dishes.
  • Energy Options (Heat Dry/Air Dry): A toggle switch allows selection between Heat Dry (heating element on during drying) and Air Dry (heating element off). Heat Dry improves drying results but uses more energy, while Air Dry reduces energy consumption.
  • Water Heating Delay: The dishwasher may pause during a cycle to heat water to the optimal temperature (minimum 120°F) for effective washing.
  • Loading Racks:
    • Top Rack: Designed for cups, glasses, small plates, saucers, and bowls. Plastic items should be loaded here to prevent melting. Long-handled knives and utensils can also be placed here.
    • Bottom Rack: Best for plates, saucers, bowls, and cookware. Large items should be placed along the edge, facing down and toward the center for best results.
    • Silverware Basket: Mix spoons, forks, and knives to prevent nesting. Sharp items (knives, skewers) should be loaded pointing down for safety, though for general safety, knives and forks can be loaded handles up. Avoid mixing silver and stainless steel to prevent damage.
  • Detergent Dispenser: Features one covered cup for the main wash and one uncovered cup for the pre-wash. Detergent amount should be adjusted based on water hardness (measured in grains per gallon). Automatic dishwashing detergent tabs can be placed in the main wash cup.
  • Rinse Aid Dispenser: Automatically releases rinse aid during the last rinse to improve drying and reduce water spots/filming. The amount dispensed can be adjusted.
  • Starting a Cycle: Run the nearest hot water faucet until water is hot, turn it off, then close the dishwasher door to latch.

Maintenance Features:

  • Dish Preparation: Scrape away large food pieces, loosen burned-on foods, and empty liquids. Rinsing off food soils is recommended if the dishwasher won't be operated immediately.
  • Food Disposer: Ensure the food disposer is completely empty if the dishwasher drains into it.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Wipe with a soft cloth and mild nonabrasive detergent, then rinse and dry.
  • Interior Cleaning: The interior, including the filter, is self-cleaning with normal use. Clean around the tub gasket area with a damp cloth if needed.
  • Overfill Protector: Located in the left front corner of the tub, it should move freely. Clean occasionally with household cleaner (vinegar or bleach) to dissolve buildup.
  • Drain Air Gap: If installed, check and clean the drain air gap (usually mounted on the countertop) to ensure proper drainage.
  • Removing Spots and Film (Hard Water Deposits): Load clean dishes (no metal utensils), do not add detergent, run a NORMAL WASH cycle for 20 minutes, then unlatch the door, pour 2 cups of white vinegar into the bottom of the dishwasher, close the door, and let the cycle finish.
  • Winterizing: For dishwashers in unheated places, disconnect electrical power, shut off water supply, drain water from inlet and drain lines, and then reconnect when restoring service.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual provides a "Before You Call" section to address common issues such as food soils left on dishes, dishes not drying, glassware/flatware spotting or cloudiness, dishware chipping, staining/discoloration, etching, detergent left in cups, leaks, vapor at vent, water in bottom of tub, unusual sounds, long cycle times, and the dishwasher not running, filling, or draining properly.
