Overview

This document describes the GARDENA Pressure Sprayer 5L Plus, Art. 11138, an operator's manual for a pressure sprayer.

Function Description

The GARDENA Pressure Sprayer is designed for the distribution of solvent-free liquid pesticides, herbicides, fertilisers, window cleaners, and car wax in domestic gardens and allotments. It is not intended for use in public places, parks, sport arenas, or in agriculture or forestry. The device operates by building up pressure within a 5-litre tank, which then allows the user to spray liquids through a lance and adjustable nozzle. Pressure is generated by pumping a handle, and a safety relief valve is integrated to release excess pressure. The sprayer features a hand valve for controlling the spray, and a permanent lock on the lance handle for continuous spraying.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Max. capacity: 5 litres (5L)
  • Spray tube length: 42 – 72 cm (adjustable)
  • Permissible working pressure: 3 bar
  • Max. permissible operating temperature: 40 °C
  • Article Number: 11138

Usage Features

Assembly: The assembly process involves connecting the spray lance, spray hose, and carrying strap to the main container.

  1. The spray lance (1) slides into the hand valve (2) and is secured by screwing on the union nut (3).
  2. The spray hose (4) slides into the hand valve and is secured by screwing on the union nut (5).
  3. The spray hose (4) also connects to the container and is secured by screwing on the union nut (7).
  4. The carrying strap (8) attaches to the container (6).

Operation: To spray liquid, the user must first pull the safety relief valve (9) to ensure no residual pressure. The pump handle (10) or dosing cap (18) is then unscrewed to fill the container (6) with a maximum of 5 litres of liquid. Additives can be precisely measured using the dosing cap (18), which has markings for 5, 10, and 20 ml. After filling, the pump handle (10) or dosing cap (18) is screwed back onto the container (6). The spray lance length can be adjusted by loosening the union nut (3). Pressure is built up by pumping the pump handle (10) after releasing the locking device (17). The spray jet can be adjusted from a spray mist (clockwise rotation) to a direct jet (counterclockwise rotation) via the nozzle (11). The liquid is sprayed by pushing the button (12) on the lance handle, which can be locked for continuous spraying using the permanent lock (13).

Safety Precautions:

  • Never open the Pressure Sprayer or unscrew the nozzle/dosing cap while it is still pressurised.
  • Always release pressure using the safety relief valve (9) before opening the sprayer.
  • Never connect the sprayer to an air-compressor.
  • Always hold the sprayer upright when pulling the safety relief valve (9).
  • Adhere to all special precautionary measures specified by the manufacturer of the product being sprayed (insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, etc.).
  • Keep children under 16 and persons unfamiliar with the instructions away from the sprayer.
  • Do not operate when tired, ill, or under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medicine.
  • The tank must not be filled with more than 5 litres of liquid.
  • Do not leave the sprayer unattended when full and pressurised.
  • Keep the unit away from heat sources and hot environments.
  • Ensure the O-ring (15) is correctly positioned and the pump handle (10) is screwed on tightly by hand (no tools).
  • Do not spray substances other than those specified by GARDENA, including acids, disinfectants, impregnators, aggressive/solvent-containing cleaning agents, petrol, or spray oil.
  • Small parts can be swallowed; keep toddlers away during assembly.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning: After each use, the pressure must be released, the container emptied, and then cleaned thoroughly by rinsing with clear water. The sprayer should then be left open to dry. Residual fluids must not be disposed of in the sewerage system. The sprayer should be cleaned before using a different product to prevent chemical reactions. If multiple sprayers are used, tanks and spray nozzles should not be interchanged. GARDENA recommends a thorough inspection by a GARDENA Service Centre after 5 years of use.

Cleaning the filter (T1): To clean the filter (14), unscrew the spray lance (1), remove the filter (14), and clean it.

Troubleshooting:

  • Pump does not build up pressure:
    • If the handle (10) or dosing cap (18) is too lightly screwed on, screw them on tighter.
    • If the hose connection at the container and hand valve is not tight, tighten them.
    • If the permanent lock (13) on the handle is locked, release it.
    • If the sealing cap (16) is dirty/defective, clean or exchange it.
  • Pressure Sprayer does not spray or sprays with a weak jet:
    • If the nozzle (11) is blocked, unscrew and clean it.
    • If the filter (14) is clogged, remove and clean it.
  • Difficult to open and close the container:
    • If the container pressure is too high, release it completely via the safety relief valve (9).

For any other malfunctions, contact the GARDENA service department.

Storage: Before storing, loosen the tank cap and empty the sprayer completely (including after cleaning with water). Store the sprayer in a frost-free place. If using the permanent lock (13), exercise caution. The sprayer should be carried by the carrying strap (8) or the handle (10). Protect the product from direct sunlight to prevent overheating.
