Overview

This document is an owner's manual for a Gardencare multi-tool, model GCMT262. It provides detailed instructions for assembly, operation, and maintenance of the device and its various attachments.

Function Description:

The Gardencare GCMT262 is a versatile multi-tool powered by an air-cooled 2-stroke petrol engine (IE34F-2E) with a displacement of 25.4 cm³. It is designed for various outdoor tasks through interchangeable attachments, including a brush cutter, pruner, and hedge trimmer. The engine's maximum output is 0.7 kW (ISO 8893), with an idle speed of 2800±150 rpm and a maximum power speed of 9800 rpm. Fuel is a 40:1 petrol to oil mixture, stored in a 0.65L tank. The transmission utilizes a centrifugal clutch, spur gear, and cam-crank mechanism.

Brush Cutter Attachment (EX-BC):

When configured as a brush cutter with an extension shaft, the dry weight without harness and gasoline is 6.2 kg. Its overall size is 1800mm x 380mm x 250mm. The reduction ratio is 22:17. It supports two cutting devices: a 3-tooth blade (255mm cutting width, 1.4mm thickness) and a nylon head (415mm cutting width, 2.4m line diameter). The maximum blade rotation speed is 7500 rpm, rotating counter-clockwise (as seen from above). The brush cutter is suitable for eliminating tall grass, non-woody vegetation, brushwood, and small shrubs up to 2 cm in diameter. It features a safety guard and requires careful installation of either the nylon head or the 3-tooth blade, ensuring secure locking and proper positioning to prevent damage or injury.

Pruner Attachment (EX-PS):

When used as a pruner saw with an extension shaft, the dry weight without shoulder strap and gasoline is 5.8 kg. Its overall size is 2100mm x 230mm x 250mm. The reduction ratio is 0.94. The cutting head includes a 12-inch (300mm) guide bar and a saw chain with a pitch x gauge of 3/8 x 0.042 inches (9.53 x 1.07mm). It uses a plunger-type oil pump and a 7T sprocket. The pruner is designed for cutting branches and requires careful assembly of the guide bar and saw chain, ensuring correct chain direction and tension. Kickback and pinching are important safety considerations, requiring a firm grip and high engine speeds during operation.

Hedge Trimmer Attachment (EX-LRH):

When used as a long-reach hedge trimmer with an extension shaft, the dry weight without shoulder strap and gasoline is 7.1 kg. Its overall size is 2300mm x 230mm x 250mm. The reduction ratio is 4:1. The cutting head features a reciprocating double blade with 28 teeth, a pitch of 30mm, and an effective cut width of 16 inches (400mm). The angle of the cutting blades can be adjusted up to 90° (±45° from the cutting head position aligned with the shaft). This attachment is suitable for cutting fresh growth (green branches) up to approximately 10mm thick.

Usage Features:

The manual emphasizes safety, requiring users to wear protective equipment (goggles, helmet, ear defenders, security shoes, and gloves) and maintain a safe distance from moving and cutting parts. Fuel handling requires caution due to flammability, advising refuelling outdoors and away from sparks or flames. The multi-tool should be operated with a firm, two-handed grip and a steady posture. Starting the engine involves a cold start procedure (air purge bulb, choke lever to closed, ignition to START) and a hot start procedure (ignition to START). The engine should be allowed to warm up, and full throttle should be used for cutting. When transporting, the engine must be off, and the pruner's scabbard should be in place.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the device's longevity and safe operation.

  • Fuel Filter: Clean or replace every 15 hours of operation using a wire hook.
  • Spark Plug: Clean and reset the gap to 0.65mm or replace with NGK: BPRM7A as needed.
  • Air Filter: Check before each use, clean with warm soapy water, and replace if damaged.
  • Carburettor: Factory-set mixture, but idle speed can be adjusted by turning the T screw.
  • Gear Case: Top up with lithium grease every 15 hours of operation by removing bolt A.
  • Bar and Chain (Pruner): Dismount and check the oiling port for blockage. Remove sawdust from the bar groove and oiling port. Grease the nose sprocket with a sprocket grease gun.
  • Saw Chain Sharpening: Sharpen when sawdust becomes powder-like, extra force is needed, or the cut is not straight. Use a 5/32 file and holder, maintaining specific angles (30° filing angle, 85° side plate angle, 60° top plate angle) and checking depth gauge.
  • Nylon Cord Replacement (Brush Cutter): Stop the engine, open the nylon head, remove old cords, cut new 2.4mm Ø cords (5 meters long) into two equal lengths, loop and insert into bobbin holes, wind clockwise, insert ends into notches, and refit spool cover. Only use manufacturer-supplied cutting devices.
  • Hedge Trimmer Blades: Clean and apply light-grade lubricating oil after each use.
  • General: Check all nuts, bolts, and screws after every use.
  • Storage: For periods longer than one month, empty the fuel tank, run the engine to clear the carburettor, remove the spark plug, pour a small amount of oil into the cylinder, rotate the crankshaft, and replace the spark plug.

The manual also includes a detailed maintenance schedule outlining checks and procedures for various components at different operating hour intervals (before use, every 25, 50, and 100 hours). The warranty covers faulty materials and workmanship for 1 year for home owners and 3 months for commercial use, but excludes failures due to insufficient maintenance, incorrect fuel mixture, abnormal use, accidental damage, incorrect assembly, or wear parts.
