Overview

This document outlines the operation, features, and safety guidelines for the Garrison Plug-In Convection Heater with Thermostat, model number 043-6080-0. It is designed for indoor residential, office, and personal shop use, emphasizing safe and efficient heating.

The primary function of this device is to provide efficient convection heating for indoor spaces. It operates by drawing in cool air, heating it using an internal element, and then releasing warm air, circulating heat throughout the room. The heater is equipped with a thermostat to maintain a desired temperature, and offers two heat settings: High (1500 W / 5120 BTUs) for quick heating and Low (750 W) for maintaining comfort.

Usage Features:

To begin using the heater, ensure it is placed in an upright position in the coldest area of the room. It must be plugged directly into a 120 V AC, 60 Hz wall outlet. It is crucial that the plug fits tightly to prevent overheating and potential damage. To avoid overloading a circuit, do not connect the heater to an outlet that is already servicing other electrical devices.

Turning the heater on involves two main steps. First, rotate the Power Control dial from the OFF position to either the LOW or HIGH setting, depending on the desired heating intensity. Once the power setting is selected, rotate the Thermostat Control clockwise towards the HIGH THERMOSTAT position. During the initial use, a slight odor or smoke may be observed; this is normal and results from the heating element's lubrication burning off, which will dissipate after a few minutes.

The Power Control dial allows selection between the two heat settings. The High setting (1500 W) is recommended for rapidly increasing the room temperature. Once the desired warmth is achieved, switching to the Low setting (750 W) is usually sufficient to maintain a comfortable environment.

The Adjustable Thermostat is a key feature for temperature management. After the heater has been turned on and the room has reached the desired temperature, slowly rotate the thermostat knob counter-clockwise until the heater shuts off. A faint "click" sound indicates this point. By leaving the thermostat at this setting, the heater will automatically cycle on and off to maintain the set temperature. To lower the temperature, rotate the knob further counter-clockwise towards the LOW position. Conversely, to increase the temperature, rotate the thermostat knob clockwise towards the HIGH position.

A Power Indicator Light is integrated into the unit, illuminating whenever the heater is plugged into an electrical outlet, providing a visual cue that the device is receiving power.

For silent operation, this heater is designed to function quietly, minimizing noise disturbance in your environment.

To turn the heater off, rotate the Power Control Dial to the OFF position. It is important to unplug the heater from the wall outlet when it is not in use, or before plugging it in.

Safety Features:

The heater incorporates several safety mechanisms to ensure safe operation. It is equipped with an automatic overheat protection device located inside its body. If the heater grill becomes obstructed, or if the unit overheats for any reason, this device will automatically shut off the heater. To reset the heater after an overheat event, first turn the power off and unplug the unit. Allow it to cool down for 10 minutes. After cooling, plug it back in and restart the heater, ensuring it is placed on a smooth, level surface free of obstructions.

Additionally, a safety tip-over switch is included. This switch will automatically shut off the heater if it is accidentally tipped over. The heater will reset and resume operation once it is placed upright again.

Maintenance Features:

Before performing any cleaning or maintenance, always ensure the heater is disconnected from the power supply and has completely cooled down. The exterior surface of the heater can be cleaned with a clean, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemical or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the unit. It is crucial NOT to immerse the heater in water. After cleaning, allow the heater to dry completely before plugging it back in for use.

Regarding repairs, it is important not to operate the heater without the grill securely in place. If the heater malfunctions or becomes damaged in any way, it should not be used. For repairs covered under warranty, refer to the warranty statement. For all other repairs, contact Garrison's Customer Service for information and assistance.

For storage, it is recommended to keep the original carton. Coil and tie the power cord to prevent damage during storage.

Important Safeguards:

The manual emphasizes several critical safety precautions. The heater is intended for use in dry environments only and should not be used near sinks, washing machines, swimming pools, or other water sources, nor in damp environments like flooded basements, due to the risk of electric shock. It should also not be used near combustible materials, flammable gases, or heat sources, and should not be placed near a bed where objects like pillows or blankets could fall onto it and ignite.

The supply cord features a polarized plug, a safety feature designed to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. To prevent electric shock, ensure the wide blade of the plug is fully inserted into the wide slot of the outlet. If the plug does not fit, consult a qualified electrician. Never attempt to defeat this safety feature or use an extension cord, as this can lead to overheating and fire risk.

Always read all instructions before use. Do not touch hot surfaces with bare skin; use handles if provided when moving the heater. Keep combustible materials at least 3 feet (0.9m) away from the front, sides, and rear of the heater. Exercise extreme caution when the heater is used by or near children or invalids, or when left operating unattended. Always unplug the heater when not in use. Do not operate the heater with a damaged cord or plug, or if it has malfunctioned or been damaged. Discard or return such a heater to an authorized service facility.

Do not use the heater outdoors. It is not intended for use in bathrooms, laundry areas, or similar indoor locations where it could fall into a bathtub or other water container. Do not run the cord under carpeting or cover it with throw rugs, runners, or similar coverings. Do not route the cord under furniture or appliances. Arrange the cord away from traffic areas to prevent tripping hazards.

To disconnect, turn controls to off, then remove the plug from the outlet. Do not insert foreign objects into ventilation or exhaust openings, as this can cause electric shock, fire, or damage. To prevent fire, do not block air intakes or exhaust openings; avoid using the heater on soft surfaces like a bed where openings might become blocked. The heater contains hot and arcing/sparking parts, so do not use it in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored. Use the heater only as described in this manual; any other use may cause fire, electric shock, or injury. Always plug heaters directly into a wall outlet/receptacle; never use with an extension cord or relocatable power tap (outlet/power strip).
