If that doesn't work, consider reducing the water supply or cycling water between the appliance and a reservoir to reach your desired temperature. Ensure the gas valve is fully open to maximize gas volume. Also, clean the gas route system. Note that efficiency decreases at altitudes above 2,000 feet, and carbon buildup in the heat exchanger can also cause this issue; clean the heat exchanger if the flame is yellow.
