Why are my dishes and flatware not clean in my GE Dishwasher?

  Several factors can cause this. The inlet water temperature might be too low; raise your water heater to 120°F and use HOT START, POTS & PANS, or HEAVY WASH and HI TEMP WASH. The detergent could be low performing, old, or damp; try using a highly rated detergent like Finish® Quantum® Automatic Dishwashing Detergent. Also, low water pressure, a clogged air gap or disposer, or improper rack loading can be culprits. Normal water pressure to the dishwasher should be 20-120 psi. Make sure large dishware does not block the detergent dispenser or the wash arm.

  Check if a fuse is blown or a circuit breaker is tripped; replace the fuse or reset the breaker, and remove other appliances from the circuit. Also, ensure the power to the dishwasher is turned on, especially if it's controlled by a wall switch.

  A small amount of clean water around the outlet on the tub bottom at the back of the tub is normal. It keeps the water seal lubricated.

  Ensure the inlet water temperature is at least 120°F. Select HEATED DRY. Use HOT START and ADDED HEAT options. Select a higher cycle, such as POTS & PANS or HEAVY WASH. Also, check the rinse agent dispenser and fill as required.

  If you have an air gap, clean it. If the dishwasher drains into a disposer, run disposer clear. Check to see if your kitchen sink is draining well. If not, you may need a plumber.

  The white film is likely caused by a low-quality phosphate-free dishwasher detergent. To remove it, run your dishes through a dishwasher cycle with citric acid, which can be found in a WD35X151 kit online, or use Finish® Dishwasher Cleaner. Pour the citric acid into the detergent cup, place the filmed items in the dishwasher (without silverware or metal), and run a complete cycle without detergent. A vinegar rinse may also be used. Pour 1 cup of vinegar into the dishwasher just after the detergent cup opens and let the dishwasher complete its cycle. The use of a rinse agent such as Finish® Jet-Dry® Rinse Aid may help minimize a repeat build up of film. Also, the use of a highly rated detergent such as Finish® Quantum® Automatic Dishwashing Detergent will help prevent film build-up.

  Several factors contribute to spots and filming. Extremely hard water is a common cause; use rinse agents like Finish® Jet-Dry® Rinse Aid, and consider a water softener if the water is extremely hard. Low inlet water temperature can also be a factor; ensure it's at least 120°F (49°C). Overloading, improper loading, old or damp detergent, an empty rinse agent dispenser, or using too little or a low performing detergent can also cause these issues. Make sure detergent is fresh. Use a highly rated detergent such as Finish® Quantum® Automatic Dishwashing Detergent. Refill rinse agent dispenser with rinse agent such as Finish® Jet-Dry® Rinse Aid. Load dishwasher as shown in the Loading section.

  Cloudiness, or etching, can be caused by a combination of soft water and too much detergent, which is permanent. To prevent it, use less detergent if you have soft water and wash glassware in the shortest cycle that will get it clean. Also, water temperature entering dishwasher exceeding 150°F can be the reason. Lower the water heater temperature.
