What to do if my GE UCG1500 won't operate?

      Gary PriceJul 28, 2025
If your GE Trash Compactor isn't working, there are several possible causes: * Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet. * Check the circuit breaker or fuse and replace it if tripped or blown. * Confirm the knob switch is in the ON position. * Sufficiently lift the foot pedal to start the compaction cycle. * Make sure the drawer is completely closed. * If the compactor has an automatic thermal motor reset, wait a few minutes for it to reset automatically.

      Justin DuncanAug 5, 2025
Little or no apparent compaction in your GE Trash Compactor can occur if the drawer isn't full enough; it needs to be at least partially full of trash to see compacting. Also, check if trash is stuck between the ram and the basket, and remove any obstructions.

If the drawer of your GE Trash Compactor won't open, the ram may not be all the way up. Lift and release the foot pedal to allow the ram to complete a cycle.

The drawer on your GE Trash Compactor might be hard to close because trash has fallen behind it. Remove any trash that may be obstructing the drawer.
