Coolant Replacement Procedure
The GeneAmp
â
PCR System 2400 Thermal Cycler requires routine maintenance which
can be performed by the end user. This routine maintenance will improve the
performance of the instrument and may prevent more costly in-house repairs. The
procedure described here is for the periodic checking of the coolant in the instrument
and the procedure for re-filling the coolant, should the need arise.
Applied Biosystems service personnel can perform this procedure should you be
reluctant to do so. This service requires the instrument to be shipped to our repair
facility and the user would be charged all fees associated with this procedure. To
request a service repair of your instrument please call our Service Call Center at 1-800-
831-6844.

GeneAmp PCR System 2400 Coolant Replacement

Instrument Preparation

Turn off, unplug, and remove four screws from the instrument sides.

Opening the Instrument Cover

Carefully lift the instrument cover, minding the connected ribbon cable.

Locating the Coolant Reservoir

Identify the coolant reservoir in the back left-hand corner of the instrument.

Checking the Coolant Level

Unscrew the reservoir lid and check if the coolant level is full.

Filling the Coolant Reservoir

Prepare and pour a 50/50 distilled water/antifreeze mixture if coolant is low.

Cleaning the Coolant Reservoir Filter

Remove, clean with a brush and distilled water, then replace the filter.

Instrument Reassembly

Carefully replace the instrument cover, avoiding the ribbon cable, and secure screws.
