The SHERLOCK 402 (SHER402) Monitoring System
was designed to monitor up to four SHERLOCK Refrigerant
Gas Sensors, activating up to two alarms based upon
user defined alarm level setpoints. The SHERLOCK 402
is compliant with ASHRAE 15-2019 and Mechanical Code
requirements for refrigerant gas monitoring.
NEMA 1 Compliant Enclosure - This enclosure is
intended for indoor use only primarily to provide a degree
of protection against contact with the enclosed equipment.
The enclosure is not designed to provide protection from
water or to be placed in a hazardous environment. Mount
only in Pollution Level 2 environments, ie. environmentally
controlled offices, control rooms, or environmentally con-
trolled machine rooms.

The SHERLOCK 402 (SHER402) Monitoring System is a device designed for refrigerant gas leak monitoring and alarming. It is compliant with ASHRAE 15-2019 and Mechanical Code requirements for refrigerant gas monitoring.

Function Description

The SHERLOCK 402 monitors up to four SHERLOCK Refrigerant Gas Sensors. It activates up to two alarms based on user-defined alarm level setpoints. The system constantly monitors the wiring to the sensors, and if communication is lost, an "OPEN" message appears on the display, and alarms activate. The device also includes a SETBACK feature, allowing for alternate alarm conditions based on a secondary Alarm Setpoint and Delay. This can be triggered by a dry contact closure (e.g., air flow switch, sail switch, timer switch) or on a daily schedule.

• Alarm Relays: Two fused SPDT relay outputs for each of the two alarm levels, and a system alarm relay.
  • Level 1 alarm activates K1A and K1B relays.
  • Level 2 alarm activates K2A and K2B relays.
  • System alarm activates 3A and 3B relays.
  • Relays K1B, K2B, and 3B can be silenced.
  • Alarm relays can be configured as "Energized to Alarm" or "De-Energized to Alarm," Common-Normally Open (C-NO) or Common-Normally Closed (C-NC).
• Optional Auxiliary Relays (SHER402-R): Zone isolation alarm relays (ZA - Sensor A Zone, ZB - Sensor B Zone, ZC - Sensor C Zone, ZD - Sensor D Zone). Each can be programmed to activate by Level 1 or Level 1 & 2 alarm.
• Optional Modbus RTU (SHER402-MB): RS485 output for communication with a BAS.

Operating Environment:

• Temperature: 32°F to 122°F (0°C to 50°C).
• Humidity: 0 to 95% RH Non-condensing.

Sensor Wiring Recommendations:

• Solid State Sensor: Belden 8443, 3-22 AWG, twisted, stranded.
• Infrared Sensor: Belden 8770, 3-18 AWG, shielded, twisted.
• The SHERLOCK 402 can accommodate up to 4 sensors (CMOS or IR) wired to any sensor input. The O2 sensor can only be wired to the Sensor "A" input.

Usage Features

Alarm Level Settings:

• Unique Level 1 and Level 2 Alarm Setpoints can be set for up to 4 sensors.
• Programmable Delay: 0 to 120 minutes for alarm activation. Sensor readings must exceed the setpoint for the programmed duration.
• Alarm Clearing: Can be programmed to clear automatically when the sensor reading drops below the setpoint (UNLATCHED) or require manual reset (LATCHED).

Alarm Indication:

• Logging: Alarms are logged, storing the last 32 events, including which sensor went into/out of alarm and when.
• Visual: An LED for the alarming sensor on the front panel will light.
• Audible: An on-board beeper will sound (90db @10ft, silenceable).
• Display: The display will show the activated alarm level.
• Optional Strobe: Factory-mounted strobe available.

Display:

• Type: 2 Line By 20 Character alphanumeric Backlighted LCD display.
• Alarm Display: Shows the name and current reading of the alarming sensor.

Keypad:

• Buttons: 5 Tactile Pushbuttons: Scroll Up, Scroll Down, Alarm Silent/Clear, Select/Edit/Change, Exit.

Maintenance Features

System Sensor Open Monitoring:

• The SHERLOCK 402 continuously monitors sensor wiring. If a sensor loses communication, "OPEN" will appear on the display, alarms will activate, and the condition will be logged.
