Maintenance Features

Regular cleaning is crucial for maintaining the microwave's performance and lifespan. Always ensure the microwave is disconnected from power and cool before cleaning.

  • General Cleaning:

    • Wipe food or liquid spills from microwave walls with a damp cloth (avoid harsh detergents or abrasives).
    • Clean the outside of the oven with a damp cloth and dry with a soft cloth, ensuring no water seeps into ventilation openings.
    • Regularly wipe the door, window (both sides), door seals, and adjacent parts with a damp cloth to remove spills or spatters. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
    • If steam builds up inside or around the door, wipe it away with a damp cloth.
  • Waveguide Cover: The waveguide cover, located on the right side of the oven, must be kept clean at all times. Wipe it with a mild detergent and water, then allow it to dry. Never remove it.

  • Control Panel: Clean the control panel with a damp cloth and dry thoroughly. Do not allow it to get wet.

  • Odor Removal: To eliminate odors, mix lemon juice and skin with water in a microwavable bowl, heat on full power for 3 minutes, then wipe the inside of the microwave thoroughly with a dry cloth.

  • Turntable Support and Oven Floor: Regularly clean the turntable support and oven floor by wiping with a mild detergent and water, then drying with a cloth. The glass turntable can be washed in warm soapy water and dried thoroughly before being placed back in the microwave. Ensure it is fitted correctly.

  • Fuse Replacement: If the microwave doesn't work due to a tripped fuse, only use a 13 amp fuse. To change it, insert a screwdriver into the recess of the plug cover, pull the fuse holder upward, slide out the old fuse, insert the new one, and push the holder back into place until it locks.

Safety Warnings and Precautions

The manual emphasizes several critical safety warnings:

  • General Safety: Read all warnings and instructions. Use the appliance only for its intended domestic purpose. Children aged 8 and above, and persons with reduced capabilities, can use the appliance under supervision and with understanding of hazards. Children should not play with the appliance or perform cleaning/maintenance unless supervised and over 8 years old. Keep the appliance and cord out of reach of children under 8.
  • Damage: Do not operate if the door or door seals are damaged; it must be repaired by a competent person. If the supply cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer or a qualified person. Do not use if the appliance, cord, or plug is damaged.
  • Placement: Place on a firm, level surface, out of reach of children. Ensure the voltage matches the mains supply. Leave a minimum of 30cm (12") above the microwave and never place items on top to avoid blocking vents. Maintain 20cm (8") clearance from adjacent walls. Do not place over a cooker or heat-producing appliance. Position so the plug is accessible. Do not use extension cables or mains socket adaptors.
  • Liquids and Containers: Do not heat liquids or other foods in sealed containers as they may explode. Microwave heating of beverages can result in delayed eruptive boiling, so handle containers with care. Stir or shake contents of feeding bottles and baby food jars and check temperature before consumption. Do not use plastic containers for high-fat or high-sugar foods.
  • Food Preparation: Do not deep fry foods. Pierce foods surrounded by membrane (e.g., egg yolks, potatoes) several times. Use only microwave-safe plastic film for reheating, ensuring it doesn't touch food and is pierced for steam escape. Do not heat eggs in their shell or whole hard-boiled eggs as they may explode.
  • Utensils: Only use utensils suitable for microwave ovens. Do not place metallic containers or utensils in the oven during microwave or combi modes. When heating in plastic or paper containers, monitor for ignition. For grill cooking, do not use paper or plastic containers/film; use heatproof and microwave-safe dishes for combination cooking.
  • Overheating/Burning: Do not overheat food. Food can burn if overcooked; start with short cooking times and check regularly. Always stir microwaved foods to distribute heat evenly and let stand for a few minutes. Test cooked food temperature before eating. Foods with mixed fat and water should stand for 30-60 seconds after cooking to prevent bubbling. Certain foods (jam, puddings) heat quicker.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance: Clean the oven regularly and remove food deposits. Failure to do so can deteriorate the surface, affecting appliance life and potentially creating a hazardous situation. Do not clean with a steam cleaner.
  • Operation: Do not use the microwave when empty. Never put objects into outer case openings or remove parts (feet, screws). Do not use the cavity for storage. Do not leave paper products, cooking utensils, or food in the cavity when not in use. Do not leave unattended when in use. Unplug when not in use and before cleaning.
  • Other: If smoke is emitted, switch off or unplug and keep the door closed to stifle flames. The outer casing may become hot; place on a heat-resistant surface and use caution. Beware of hot steam when opening lids. The door or outer surface may get hot during operation. The appliance is not intended to be operated by an external timer or separate remote-control system.
  • Environmental Information: Waste electrical products/batteries should not be disposed of with household waste in the UK. This appliance is Group 2 Class B equipment, suitable for residential and domestic use.
