QuarterMaster/QMX Instructions
Congratulations on your purchase of TheGigRig QuarterMaster.
This simple yet very high quality true bypass looper will ensure the purity of your guitar’s
signal by bypassing any unused effects. In line with all GigRig products the QuarterMaster
looper does not put any guitar signal through foot switches. True bypass high quality gold
contact relays are used to maintain high signal quality sound and extremely low switching
noise.
At the heart of the QuarterMaster are the True Bypass loops activated by stepping on the
footswitch.
True Bypass Loop
When the light is off the guitar signal is sent through a true
bypass relay to the output. When the footswitch is pressed
the Pedal or Pedals within the Snd and Rnd loop will be
added to the signal path.
Specification:
True bypass loop with input muting of the pedal in the loop
when the loop is bypassed
Example: With a Pedal connected between the Snd and Rtn, the foot switch will bring the
pedal into the signal path. When the light is off the pedal will be true bypassed.
Power Requirements: Each loop requires 35mA to operate at its best. *PLEASE NOTE* if the
unit is under powered, it will not work properly. We recommend using TheGigRig Modular
Power Supply for trouble free operation. Requirements for each unit are;
QM4/QMX4 : 140mA
QM8/QMX8 : 280mA
QM6/QMX6 : 210mA
QM10/ QMX10: 350mA
Tuner Return Jack
The jack included with your
QuarterMaster is a short-
circuited jack that you can use to
turn and standard true bypass
loop into a silent tuner send
option.
Example: Simply plug the send
from the loop you wish to use as
your silent tuner loop into the
input of your tuner and the jack
into the return of the loop. When
you engage the footswitch your signal will be sent to the input of the tuner, and the short
circuit jack plug will silence the signal to the amp.

Overview

The GigRig QuarterMaster/QMX is a high-quality true bypass looper designed to maintain the purity of a guitar's signal by bypassing unused effects. It utilizes gold contact relays for true bypass switching, ensuring high signal quality and extremely low switching noise. The design ensures that no guitar signal passes through the footswitches themselves.

Function Description:

At its core, the QuarterMaster features True Bypass loops. When the light associated with a loop is off, the guitar signal is sent through a true bypass relay directly to the output, effectively bypassing any effects within that loop. When the footswitch for a loop is pressed, the pedal or pedals connected within the "Snd" (Send) and "Rnd" (Return) loop are added to the signal path. A key specification of the true bypass loop is that it includes input muting of the pedal in the loop when the loop is bypassed, preventing unwanted noise or signal bleed from the bypassed effect.

The QMX model introduces an additional feature: a pushbutton on the left of each loop, allowing for "FLIP/FLOP" operation. When the pushbutton is left "OUT," the QMX operates as a standard QuarterMaster, indicated by a blue LED. In this mode, each loop functions independently. When the pushbutton is pressed "IN," the unit enters "FLIP/FLOP" mode, indicated by a red LED. In "FLIP/FLOP" mode, pressing one loop's footswitch will automatically turn off any other loops that are also in FLIP/FLOP mode. This feature is particularly useful for seamlessly switching between different overdrive pedals, delay pedals, or even between guitars by using the loop returns as instrument inputs. Any or all loops can be set to FLIP/FLOP mode without affecting loops operating in standard mode.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • True Bypass Relays: High-quality gold contact relays are used for signal switching, ensuring minimal signal degradation and low switching noise.
  • Power Requirements: Each loop requires 35mA for optimal operation. Under-powering the unit will result in improper functionality. The recommended power supply is TheGigRig Modular Power Supply.
    • QM4/QMX4 (4 loops): 140mA total
    • QM6/QMX6 (6 loops): 210mA total
    • QM8/QMX8 (8 loops): 280mA total
    • QM10/QMX10 (10 loops): 350mA total
  • Construction: Metal construction with high-quality switches and components.
  • Compliance: The QuarterMaster is totally lead-free and complies with the RoHS Standard, as well as BS EN 60950-1:2002 Safety standards.
  • Patents & Registrations:
    • GigRig Patent Granted: GB2405987
    • USA Patent Pending: US10/937,997
    • Design Registration: # 3014412
    • 'GigRig' is a stylised trademark: No 2343300

Usage Features:

  • True Bypass Operation: Ensures that when an effect loop is bypassed, the guitar signal remains pure and unaffected by the pedals in the loop.
  • Silent Tuner Send: The QuarterMaster includes a short-circuited jack that can convert a standard true bypass loop into a silent tuner send option. To use this, plug the "send" from the desired loop into the tuner's input and the short-circuited jack into the loop's "return." When the footswitch for this loop is engaged, the signal is sent to the tuner, and the short-circuit jack silences the signal to the amplifier.
  • FLIP/FLOP Mode (QMX only): Allows for exclusive switching between selected loops. When one FLIP/FLOP loop is activated, all other active FLIP/FLOP loops are automatically deactivated. This is ideal for A/B switching between effects or even instruments.
  • Independent Loop Operation: Loops can be set to either standard true bypass mode or FLIP/FLOP mode independently, offering flexible control over signal routing.
  • Input Muting: When a loop is bypassed, the input to the pedal within that loop is muted, preventing unwanted noise or signal bleed.

Maintenance Features:

  • Durable Construction: Built with metal and high-quality components designed for a lifetime of use.
  • Warranty: Comes with a standard 12-month warranty, with a commitment from TheGigRig to support its customers beyond this period.
  • Disposal: The QuarterMaster contains no batteries or lead. For disposal, users are advised to return the unit to TheGigRig Ltd or use standard disposal methods for electrical equipment recommended in their country.
