The GigRig QuarterMaster/QMX is a high-quality true bypass looper designed to maintain the purity of a guitar's signal by bypassing unused effects. It utilizes gold contact relays for true bypass switching, ensuring high signal quality and extremely low switching noise. The design ensures that no guitar signal passes through the footswitches themselves.
At its core, the QuarterMaster features True Bypass loops. When the light associated with a loop is off, the guitar signal is sent through a true bypass relay directly to the output, effectively bypassing any effects within that loop. When the footswitch for a loop is pressed, the pedal or pedals connected within the "Snd" (Send) and "Rnd" (Return) loop are added to the signal path. A key specification of the true bypass loop is that it includes input muting of the pedal in the loop when the loop is bypassed, preventing unwanted noise or signal bleed from the bypassed effect.
The QMX model introduces an additional feature: a pushbutton on the left of each loop, allowing for "FLIP/FLOP" operation. When the pushbutton is left "OUT," the QMX operates as a standard QuarterMaster, indicated by a blue LED. In this mode, each loop functions independently. When the pushbutton is pressed "IN," the unit enters "FLIP/FLOP" mode, indicated by a red LED. In "FLIP/FLOP" mode, pressing one loop's footswitch will automatically turn off any other loops that are also in FLIP/FLOP mode. This feature is particularly useful for seamlessly switching between different overdrive pedals, delay pedals, or even between guitars by using the loop returns as instrument inputs. Any or all loops can be set to FLIP/FLOP mode without affecting loops operating in standard mode.
