Overview

The provided document is a customer instruction manual for the "100 - VERSA HURDLE" manufactured by Gill Athletics. This manual outlines important safety instructions, assembly, and usage guidelines for the hurdle.

Function Description

The Gill 100 - VERSA HURDLE is a piece of exercise equipment designed for fitness programs, likely in track and field or general athletic training. Its primary function is to provide an adjustable barrier for users to jump over, facilitating exercises that improve agility, speed, and jumping ability. The design emphasizes safety, with features intended to minimize injury risk if the hurdle is contacted during use.

Important Technical Specifications

While the manual does not explicitly list detailed technical specifications such as dimensions, weight, or materials, it provides functional specifications related to its adjustability and construction:

  • Adjustable Height: The hurdle features a "gate board" with holes at various heights, allowing users to insert pegs from the legs to set the hurdle to the desired height. This adjustability makes it suitable for a range of training levels and exercises.
  • Collapsible Design: A key safety feature is its collapsible nature. The assembly instructions specify that "the board should be on the far side of the legs so that if contacted it will collapse." This design minimizes the risk of injury from impact, as the hurdle will give way rather than remaining rigid.
  • Leveling Mechanism: Users are instructed to "Ensure each side is set to the same height so that it is level," indicating a design that allows for precise height alignment across the hurdle's width.
  • Warning Labels: The product includes a California Proposition 65 warning: "This product can expose you to Titanium Dioxide, which is known to the State of California to cause cancer." This indicates the presence of Titanium Dioxide in the product's materials, likely in coatings or pigments.

Usage Features

The manual provides comprehensive usage features, focusing on safety, proper setup, and exercise guidelines:

Prior to Exercising:

  • Medical Clearance: Users are strongly advised to obtain a complete physical examination and physician's recommendation before starting any fitness program.
  • Instruction Review: All instructions must be read before using the equipment.
  • Child Safety: Children should not be allowed on or near the exercise equipment.
  • Equipment Inspection: A thorough inspection of the unit is required before each use. Users must check for "worn, loose, or missing parts," paying close attention to "belts, cables, and their connections." Any suspected defect must be reported immediately, and the equipment should not be used.
  • Intended Use: The equipment should only be used for its intended purpose. Accessory attachments not recommended by the manufacturer should not be used, as they might cause injuries.
  • Attire: Loose or dangling clothing or jewelry should not be worn while using the equipment.
  • Warm-up: Adequate warm-up is essential before engaging in any exercise.
  • Proper Technique: Users must know how to properly perform the desired exercise and be familiar with safe exercise technique. Consulting a Certified Trainer is recommended if in doubt.
  • Avoid Overexertion: Users should not overexert themselves or work to exhaustion. Again, consulting a Certified Trainer is advised if in doubt.
  • Stop if Unwell: If users feel faint, dizzy, or experience pain, they must stop their workout immediately and consult their physician.
  • General Warning: A prominent warning states: "FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THESE GUIDELINES COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH!"

Assembly/Use Instructions:

  1. Unpackaging: Remove the hurdle from its packaging.
  2. Height Adjustment: Insert the pegs at the top of the legs into the gate board holes at the desired height.
  3. Leveling: Ensure each side of the hurdle is set to the same height to ensure it is level.
  4. Board Orientation: The board must face the correct direction for proper use:
    • The curve of the legs should face away from the user (the "Approach" side).
    • The board should be positioned on the far side of the legs so that if contacted, it will collapse, enhancing safety.

Maintenance Features

The manual implicitly suggests maintenance through its emphasis on pre-use inspection:

  • Regular Inspection: Users are instructed to "Inspect the unit carefully for any worn, loose, or missing parts. Pay close attention to belts, cables, and their connections." This implies that regular checks for wear and tear are necessary to ensure the equipment remains safe and functional.
  • Reporting Defects: Any suspected defect must be reported to authorized personnel immediately, indicating a system for addressing maintenance issues.
  • No Specific Tools: The "Tools Needed" section explicitly states "none," suggesting that routine assembly and adjustment do not require specialized tools, simplifying user interaction.

In summary, the Gill 100 - VERSA HURDLE is a user-friendly, adjustable, and safety-conscious piece of athletic training equipment designed to facilitate hurdle exercises. Its key features include adjustable height, a collapsible design for safety, and clear instructions for proper use and pre-exercise inspection to ensure user well-being.
