Safety
1. Make sure the RPM rating of the grinding discs correspond with the manufacturer’s
recommended speed of the tool.
2. Always wear approved eye protection.
3. Have throttle in “offposition when connecting to air supply.
4. Disconnect tool before performing service, changing accessories, or when not in use.
5. Always be in a safe working distance from others when using tools.
6. Keep tools clean and oiled for best and safest performance.
7. Follow instructions for lubricating and changing accessories.
8. Do not wear loose fitting clothing and remove watches and rings.
9. Always use proper hose and fittings. Never use quick change couplings attached at tool.
10. Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
11. Never carry tools by the hose. Keep hoses from heat, oil, and sharp edges. Check hoses
for weak or worn condition before each use, making certain that all connections are
secure.
Lubrication
Lubricate the tool daily with a good grade of air tool oil. The oil can be applied directly into
the air inlet of the tool and then run the tool. A rust inhibitor oil is acceptable for air tools.
Air Supply
Tools of this class operate on a wide range of air pressure. It is recommended that air pressure
of these tools measure 90 PSI at the tool while running free. Higher pressure and unclean air
will shorten the tool’s life and may create a hazardous condition.
Water in the airline will cause damage to the tool. Ensure that the air tank is drained daily
Clean the air inlet filter screen on at least a weekly basis. The recommended hookup
procedure can be viewed in the illustration below.

Overview

The Global Industrial Model # G3420 is a 1/4" Die Grinder designed for various grinding, sanding, and polishing applications. This pneumatic tool operates on compressed air and is engineered for industrial use, emphasizing safety, performance, and durability.

Function Description:

The die grinder is primarily used for precision grinding, deburring, polishing, and shaping materials in manufacturing, automotive, and fabrication settings. It utilizes a rotating collet to hold various grinding accessories, such as grinding discs, burrs, and abrasive stones. The tool's high rotational speed allows for efficient material removal and finishing. It is designed to be handheld and offers precise control for detailed work.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Free Speed (RPM): 22,000 RPM, indicating a high rotational speed suitable for aggressive material removal and fine finishing.
  • Air Pressure (PSI): Recommended operating pressure of 90 PSI (pounds per square inch) at the tool while running free. The manual also states a working pressure range of 0-90 PSIG.
  • Collet Size: 1/4", which is a standard size for die grinder accessories, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of bits and burrs.
  • Avg. Air Consumption (cfm): 4 CFM (cubic feet per minute), providing an estimate of the air compressor capacity required to operate the tool efficiently.
  • Hose Size (ID): 3/8" (internal diameter) is the recommended minimum hose size to ensure adequate airflow to the tool.
  • Air Inlet (NPT): 1/4" NPT (National Pipe Taper) American Thread, a common standard for pneumatic tool connections.
  • Overall Length: 6-3/4", indicating a compact design for maneuverability in tight spaces.
  • Weight (Lbs): 1-3/8 lbs, making it a lightweight tool that reduces user fatigue during extended operation.
  • Lubricant: Light density, non-detergent lubricant oil (e.g., #60) is recommended for daily lubrication.

Usage Features:

  • Safety First: The manual strongly emphasizes safety, recommending approved eye protection, ensuring the throttle is in the "off" position when connecting to air supply, and disconnecting the tool before service or accessory changes. Users are advised to maintain a safe working distance from others, keep tools clean and oiled, and follow lubrication instructions.
  • Ergonomics: Users are instructed to avoid loose-fitting clothing, watches, and rings to prevent entanglement. Proper footing and balance are crucial during operation.
  • Air Supply Management: The tool requires a clean and regulated air supply. The air inlet has a standard 1/4" NPT thread. An air regulator can be used as a throttle for positive speed control. Line pressure may need to be increased for long air hoses (over 25 feet) to compensate for pressure drop. Minimum hose diameter is 1/4" I.D., and fittings should have the same internal dimensions.
  • Workpiece Security: It is recommended to secure the workpiece with clamps or a vise to free both hands for operating the tool, enhancing safety and control.
  • Accessory Compatibility: Users must ensure that the RPM rating of grinding discs corresponds with the tool's recommended speed to prevent accidents and ensure optimal performance.

Maintenance Features:

  • Daily Lubrication: The tool should be lubricated daily with a good grade of air tool oil, applied directly into the air inlet. A rust inhibitor oil is also acceptable. This is critical as "FAILURE TO OIL can void your warranty."
  • Air Supply Quality: The manual highlights that 90% of air tool problems are caused by moisture in air lines. To prevent this, the air tank should be drained daily, and the air inlet filter screen cleaned at least weekly. Water in the airline can cause significant damage.
  • Cleaning and Inspection: Keeping tools clean and oiled is essential for best and safest performance. Dirt or gum deposits can reduce power and should be addressed by cleaning the air strainer and flushing the tool with gum solvent oil.
  • Hose Care: Hoses should be kept away from heat, oil, and sharp edges. Regular checks for weak or worn conditions are necessary, ensuring all connections are secure. Tools should never be carried by the hose.
  • Troubleshooting: If the tool experiences loss of power or erratic action due to external factors (e.g., reduced compressor output, excessive drain on the air line, moisture, or restriction), these conditions should be addressed. If the tool is out of warranty, users can clean, reassemble, and re-lubricate it themselves or take it to an air tool service center.
  • Warranty Service: For tools within the one-year limited warranty period, any defects in material or workmanship will be repaired or replaced by Global Industrial. Warranty claims and returns require contacting Global Industrial directly, providing name, address, purchase date, and a description of the defect. Repairs due to abuse, misuse, damage, or unauthorized repair attempts are not covered.
