What are Ultrasound
Ultrasound is defined as an acoustic vibration with frequencies
above the limit of audible sounds ( superior of 20.000 Hz).
Ultrasounds with therapeutic purpose were introduced and
studied in a systematic way after the Secon World War. They were
immediately diffused in Italy and a lot of Italian academics
contributed significantly to the experimental and clinical research
in this field.
Ultrasound spread as compression- decompression waves, with a
back-and-forth motion of the transmission means parcels, parallel
to the direction of the propagation wave.
Ultrasounds are artificially produced through the piezoelectric
effect using a quarz or a ceramic disc.
