Overview

The Gogo Cloudport is a device designed for Gogo Business Aviation products, providing a secure wireless link to the Gogo Cloud service for downloading and storing digital content. It is compatible with Gogo AVANCE, SCS, and UCS-equipped aircraft that have FBO/Gogo Cloud Functionality enabled (SCS and L3 with Software Version 3.0 or later, L5i/L5 with Software Version 3.0 or later, and UCS with Software Version 4.4 or later).

Function Description:

The Cloudport's primary function is to act as a local content server for aircraft parked in a hangar. It downloads digital content from the Gogo Cloud Service via a wired internet connection and then wirelessly feeds that content to nearby Gogo-equipped aircraft. This allows for efficient content updates without relying on the aircraft's own internet connection. The connection between the Cloudport and the Gogo Cloud, as well as to the aircraft, is secured via tunnels.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Part Number: P49159-002
  • Dimensions: 7.95" L x 7.75" W x 3.12" H
  • Weight: 7.45 lbs. (3.38 kg)
  • Power Requirements: 100/240 VAC
  • Operating Temperature (operational): 0°C to +50°C (32 to 122 degrees F)
  • Connectivity: Requires a dedicated Ethernet wired guest network for internet access. The Ethernet cable connecting the Cloudport to the internet access point must not exceed 300 feet (Category 5 or better).
  • Antennas: Equipped with three antennas that send and receive radio signals in a circular pattern perpendicular to the antenna.
  • Installation Environment: Designed for indoor installation only. It is NOT airworthy, NOT weatherproof, and must be installed in a location not exposed to water. It requires ambient air movement for cooling and should not be installed in a completely sealed chamber.

Usage Features:

  • Installation Flexibility: The Cloudport can be mounted on a wall, a ceiling, or a flat surface such as a table. For optimal performance, it should be installed in a hangar with a direct line of sight to the aircraft being serviced. If multiple aircraft are to be serviced, the Cloudport should be installed high enough to maintain a direct line of sight to all aircraft.
  • Antenna Orientation: The antennas can be configured for specific coverage needs:
    • Single Area Coverage: If aircraft are parked in a designated location, all three antennas should be focused on that location, parallel to each other and perpendicular to the aircraft, to maximize performance.
    • Wider Area Coverage: If aircraft are parked randomly throughout the hangar, the antennas can be positioned to cover a wider area. This configuration may result in slower data transfer speeds but provides broader coverage.
  • Network Configuration:
    • WAN Port: Connects to a dedicated Ethernet wired guest network. The Cloudport has two Ethernet ports, with the WAN port located on the right.
    • SSID Survey (Optional): For "noisy" RF environments, an optional SSID survey can be performed to identify an unused channel, optimizing wireless performance.
    • Wireless Settings: The Cloudport's wireless network can be configured via a web interface (192.168.18.1). Installers can rename the SSID (default is Gogo-Status, max 32 characters, no spaces) and configure radio frequency, channel, and operating region.
    • FBO Services: The FBO Services checkbox on the UCS Network Configuration page must be enabled for UCS Network Configuration. For AVANCE or SCS Wi-Fi Radios, the Gogo Cloud Enabled checkbox must be checked.
  • Content Management:
    • Operating Timezone: Users can select the time zone where the hangar is located.
    • Content Load Time: Allows selection of a specific time of day for Vision content to be loaded to the Cloudport, which can be useful for scheduling transfers during off-peak hours.
    • Software Update Frequency: Configurable frequency for Cloudport operating software updates.
  • Location Tracking: The Cloudport's installation location can be entered either by Airport ICAO code or by manually inputting Latitude, Longitude, Name, Region, and Type.

Maintenance Features:

  • Status Monitoring: The Cloudport provides a status page accessible via a web interface (192.168.18.1) that displays:
    • Internet Status: Indicates if the Cloudport has an internet connection (AVAILABLE/UNAVAILABLE).
    • Cloud Status: Shows if the Cloudport has made a connection to the Gogo Cloud (ENABLED/UNAVAILABLE).
    • Wireless Status: Indicates if the Cloudport access point is broadcasting (ENABLED/DISABLED).
    • Connected Aircraft Status: Shows if an aircraft is connected and if content is being loaded (INITIALIZING/LOADING).
    • Disk Usage: Displays the amount of disk space used.
    • Software Revision: Shows the current software version.
    • Installed Catalog: Indicates the installed content catalog version.
    • Aircraft Status: Provides information on connected aircraft, including status (LOADING/LOADED), last update time, load started time, and current transfer ID.
    • Aircraft History: Logs past connected aircraft, including last connected time, transferred catalog size, and N/A status.
  • Troubleshooting: The status page helps identify connection issues (internet, Gogo Cloud, wireless) and content loading problems. If cables are connected correctly but internet access is not available, the IT department should be contacted to allow internet access.
  • System Restart: A "Restart System" option is available on the System Settings Page.
  • Support Contact: For issues with equipment suspected of failure, Gogo Business Aviation Technical Support can be contacted at 1-303-301-3278 or BAtechsupport@gogoair.com.
  • Documentation: Gogo Business Aviation welcomes comments, suggestions, and corrections to the manual, which can be sent to bacustomerservice@gogoair.com.
