Function Description:

A key feature of intermittent suction is the user's ability to adjust the "on" time (duration of applied vacuum) from 1 to 90 seconds. The "off" time, during which the unit vents to atmosphere, is fixed at 12 seconds.

The core of the pump's operation lies in a diaphragm pump mechanism. Negative and positive pressures are created by the reciprocating motion of a diaphragm inside the pump head. Maintenance Features:

Pump Lubrication: The pump and motor are permanently lubricated and do not require oiling or greasing. Users are explicitly warned against lubricating any parts with oil, grease, or petroleum products.
Pump Maintenance (Air Filters and Gasket):
- The air filters and gasket should be checked or replaced at least once a year. There are two pump heads, and both should be maintained simultaneously.
- Replacement involves removing four phillips head screws from the top cover, replacing the filters, and cleaning or replacing the gasket.
Valve Replacement:
- Requires removing four socket head machine screws holding the pump head. Note any shims for proper replacement.

- Socket head screws should be tightened to 90-100 inch pounds.

- Torque the phillips head machine screws to 30 inch pounds.
- Caution: Avoid raising burrs or nicks on screw heads, as this can damage the inlet valve.
- Warning: Users are advised not to remove the connecting rod or completely disassemble the pump. If a new Service Kit (Part No. 01-90-2526) does not resolve issues, the unit should be returned to the factory for repair.
Bacteria Filter Replacement:
- Should be replaced after one month of patient use or when a reduction in airflow is noticed. It must be replaced if fluids enter the filter due to collection bottle overflow.
- Replacement involves unscrewing the old filter and screwing in a new one, finger tight.
- Caution: Prevent thread damage from cross-threading or overtightening during installation.
Glass Collection Bottle and Cap Assembly Sterilization:
- Remove the cap assembly, dispose of drainage fluids (which are biochemical hazards and must be handled according to local and state codes).
- Soak in warm detergent solution, wash with a nylon bristle brush, rinse thoroughly, and aerate.
- Autoclave at 250° F for 15 minutes following manufacturer's recommendations.
- Caution: Do not flash autoclave glass bottles; sterilize with Ethylene Oxide Gas if desired, following manufacturer's directions.
Disposable Collection Containers: These are biochemical hazards when contaminated and must be disposed of according to local and state codes.
Solenoid Valve Replacement: If Solenoid Valve No. 2 (venting solenoid) needs replacement, ensure the brass elbow with an orifice from the old valve is transferred to the "EXH" port of the new valve for proper vacuum system function.
Vacuum Regulator Replacement:
- Involves removing the adjustment knob, stainless steel top cover, disconnecting rubber tubes, and removing the regulator from the stand.
- Separate the regulator top from the body to access the diaphragm assembly.
- When installing a new diaphragm, ensure it lies flat within its plastic housing.
- Reassemble and tighten screws alternately.
- Caution: The new diaphragm assembly is factory set for 200 mm Hg; do not alter the adjustment screw.
