Overview

This document describes a 6/12V 4Amp intelligent car and motorcycle battery charger, model GOD0016. It provides instructions for safe operation, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The GOD0016 is an automatic microprocessor-controlled battery charger designed for charging and maintaining 6V/12V lead-acid, AGM, and GEL starter batteries used in motor vehicles. Its intelligent design allows for multi-step charging, including a final maintenance charge that keeps the battery capacity at 95-100%, ensuring the battery remains fully charged at all times. The charging operation does not require constant monitoring, although it is advised not to leave the battery unattended for extended periods. The charger is equipped with electronic protection against overload, short circuits, and reverse polarity. It also features one or more fine fuses for additional protection.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Mains Voltage: 220-240 V ~ 50 Hz
  • Max. Power Rating: 70 W
  • Nominal Output Voltage: 6 V DC / 12 V DC
  • Nominal Output Current at 6V: 2 A
  • Nominal Output Current at 12V: 2 A / 4 A
  • Battery Capacity: 3-120 Ah

Usage Features:

The charger is straightforward to use, with an LCD display (Fig. 2) that provides clear information about the charging process and battery status.

  • Mode Button (Fig. 1/Item 1): Used to select different charging functions:
    • 12V/2A (Fig. 2/Item A): For charging 12V lead-acid, AGM, and GEL batteries with a 2A current.
    • 12V/4A (Fig. 2/Item B): For charging 12V lead-acid, AGM, and GEL batteries with a 4A current.
    • 12V/4A Winter Mode (Fig. 2/Item C): For charging 12V lead-acid, AGM, and GEL batteries in cold conditions (ambient temperature of -20°C to +5°C) with a 4A current. Danger: Do not charge any frozen batteries.
    • 6V/2A (Fig. 2/Item D): For charging 6V lead-acid, AGM, and GEL batteries with a 2A current.
  • LCD Display Symbols (Fig. 2):
    • E: Indicates a defective battery.
    • F: Indicates incorrectly connected clamps (reverse polarity) or a short-circuit.
    • G: Displays the battery voltage in volts.
    • H: Shows the battery's charge status in percentage (one increment equals 25%). A flashing battery symbol indicates charging in progress, while all increments lit up mean the battery is fully charged.
  • Charging Procedure:
    1. Release or remove battery stoppers (if fitted).
    2. Check the acid level in the battery and top up with distilled water if necessary. Important: Battery acid is aggressive; rinse off splashes thoroughly and seek medical advice if needed.
    3. Connect the red charging cable to the positive (+) pole of the battery.
    4. Connect the black charging cable to the vehicle's bodywork, away from the battery and petrol pipe. Warning: In cases of positive earthing, connect the black cable to the negative pole of the battery, then the red cable to the bodywork away from the battery and petrol pipe.
    5. Connect the charger to a 230V ~ 50Hz mains socket. The charger automatically detects the battery's nominal voltage (6V or 12V). The LCD display lights up yellow during charging. Important: Do not connect to any other mains voltage. Charging can create dangerous explosive gases; avoid sparks and naked flames. Risk of explosion!
    6. If terminals are connected in reverse, the protection against swapped poles prevents damage. Disconnect the charger, wait approximately 3 minutes, and restart.
  • Charging Time Calculation (Fig. 3): The approximate charging time to reach 80% charge for a fully discharged battery can be calculated using the formula: Charging time (h) = Battery capacity (Ah) / Charging current (Amp). The charging current should be 1/10 to 1/6 of the battery capacity.
  • Ventilation: Gases are released during charging; ensure good ventilation.
  • Display Indicators: The LCD display shines green during charging and turns blue when charging is complete.
  • Finishing Charging:
    1. Pull the plug out of the socket.
    2. First disconnect the black charging cable from the bodywork.
    3. Then release the red charging cable from the positive pole on the battery.
    4. Important: In case of positive earthing, first disconnect the red cable from the bodywork, then the black cable from the battery.
    5. Screw or push battery stoppers back into position.
  • Battery Tester for 12V Batteries: Connect the charger to the battery. The LCD symbol "H" (Fig. 2) shows the charge status (1 increment = 25%), and the battery voltage is displayed.

Maintenance Features:

  • General Maintenance:
    • Ensure the battery is always securely mounted.
    • Maintain a perfect connection to the vehicle's electrical system.
    • Keep the battery clean and dry. Apply a thin layer of acid-free, acid-resistant grease (Vaseline) to the connection terminals.
    • For non-maintenance-free batteries, check the acid level approximately every 4 weeks and top up with distilled water if necessary.
  • Cleaning:
    • Danger: Always pull out the mains power plug before cleaning.
    • Keep all safety devices, air vents, and the motor housing free of dirt and dust. Wipe with a clean cloth or blow with compressed air at low pressure.
    • Clean the equipment regularly with a moist cloth and soft soap. Do not use cleaning agents or solvents that could damage plastic parts. Prevent water from seeping into the device.
    • Store the charger in a dry room. Clean any corrosion off the charging terminals.
  • Internal Maintenance: There are no parts inside the equipment that require additional maintenance.
  • Troubleshooting: The manual includes a table for common faults, possible causes, and remedies, such as incorrect clamp connection, poor contact, or a defective battery.
  • Waste Disposal: Batteries should be disposed of at motor vehicle workshops or special waste collection points. Consult your local council for information.

Safety Information (Fig. 4):

  • 1: Indicates the equipment is totally insulated.
  • 2: CAUTION - Read the operating instructions to reduce the risk of injury.
  • The equipment can be used by children aged 8 and older, and by individuals with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, if they are supervised or have received instructions on safe use and understand the associated hazards. Children are not allowed to play with the equipment, clean it, or perform user-level maintenance without supervision.
  • Danger: The equipment and packaging materials are not toys. Keep plastic bags, foils, and small parts away from children to prevent swallowing or suffocation.
