Do you have a question about the GORILLA LADDERS GLMPXA-14 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Gorilla Ladders Multi-Position Ladder is a versatile aluminum telescoping ladder designed for various applications, including extension ladder, twin stepladder, stairway ladder, and 90-degree ladder configurations. It is available in three models: GLMPXA-14, GLMPXA-18, and GLMPXA-22, each with different height capabilities and total positions.

Function Description:

The ladder's primary function is to provide a safe and adjustable means to reach various heights for tasks around the home or at a job site. Its multi-position design allows it to adapt to different working environments and requirements. The adjustable hinges enable quick transitions between the four main configurations, while the rail locks facilitate one-foot increment height adjustments of the outer sections.

Usage Features:

  • Adjustable Hinges: These allow the ladder to transition between storage, extension, twin stepladder, stairway, and 90-degree configurations. The hinges lock into three distinct positions, ensuring stability. To unlock, palm buttons are pushed; to lock, the ladder is positioned correctly until hinges fully engage.
  • Rail Locks: Located on each side of the ladder, these locks secure the inner and outer sections, enabling height adjustments in one-foot increments. To unlock, turn the rail locks a 1/4 turn to the unlocked position; to lock, turn them a 1/4 turn to the locked position. It is crucial that no red is showing when the rail locks are fully engaged.
  • Extension Ladder Mode: For use, the ladder is laid flat with rungs facing up. Rail locks are unlocked on one side, and the outer section is extended to the desired length, then locked. The process is repeated for the other side if more height is needed. The ladder is then flipped over, raised, and leaned against a solid wall at approximately a 75-degree angle. Only the front of the ladder should be climbed in this mode.
  • Twin Stepladder Mode: From storage, adjustable hinges are unlocked, and the two sections are pulled apart until hinges snap into place and lock. Height is adjusted by unlocking rail locks on one side, tipping the ladder to allow the outer section to drop to the desired height, then locking the rail locks. This is repeated for the other side to ensure steps are level.
  • Stairway Ladder Mode: Similar to the twin stepladder setup, hinges are unlocked, and sections are pulled apart. Height is adjusted by unlocking rail locks on one side, tipping the ladder to drop the outer section to the desired height, and locking the rail locks. The other side is then adjusted to fit the staircase, ensuring steps are level.
  • 90-Degree Ladder Mode: This configuration is used when one side of the ladder is one rung shorter than the other, and the ladder is against a solid wall on a flat, level surface. The setup involves unlocking hinges, pulling sections apart, adjusting height by unlocking rail locks on one side to drop the outer section, and then repeating for the other side to achieve the one-rung difference.
  • Scaffold Configuration (with optional Rail Brackets): Gorilla Ladders MPX rail brackets (Model # GLMP-RB-2) are available accessories that allow the multi-position ladder to be used as two scaffold bases. A 2-inch x 10-inch construction-grade lumber plank must be used, resting on two rungs at the same level, extending at least 6 inches on each side, and secured to both scaffold supports. The outer sections of the ladder are removed, and the rail brackets are inserted into the outer rail with the tab on the outside, then locked into place with the rail locks.

Safety Instructions:

  • All locking mechanisms (hinges and rail locks) must be fully engaged before using the ladder.
  • Do not stand on the ladder when adjusting hinges or pushing palm buttons.
  • Do not force hinges with tools; light pressure is sufficient when holes are aligned.
  • Unlock only one rail lock at a time while supporting the inner section.
  • Do not adjust rail locks if anyone is on the ladder.
  • Keep all body parts clear of sliding steps and rungs during adjustment.
  • Never use the ladder in stairway mode if steps are not level.
  • Never use the ladder in 90-degree mode if it's not on a flat, level surface or if the back is not against a wall.
  • Do not stand on the plank above 3 feet when using the scaffold configuration.
  • Do not use as a stepladder or extension ladder without flared bases.
  • Always use fall protection equipment.
  • Check applicable ANSI, OSHA, State, and Local codes.

Maintenance Features:

  • Lubrication: Lubricate mechanical hinges and rail locks with a light lubricant (e.g., 10 to 20 weight light machine oil like 3-in-ONE®) every six months, and before long-term storage. More frequent lubrication may be needed based on usage and extreme weather conditions.
  • Storage: Always store the ladder in a dry location.
  • Cleaning: Keep rails clean to ensure smooth sliding of the inner ladder. Keep hinge mechanisms free of dirt, salt spray, paint, or other contaminants.
  • Inspection: Regularly check all components for proper operation.
  • Replacement Parts: Replace inner and outer ladder feet as required to ensure safety.
