Warning

Overview

The Govee Water Leak Detector with Wi-Fi Gateway (Models H5040+H5054) is a smart home device designed to provide early warning of water leaks or drips, helping to prevent potential water damage to your property. This system consists of two main components: the Wi-Fi Gateway and the Water Leak Detector.

Function Description

The primary function of the Govee Water Leak Detector is to detect the presence of water and alert you promptly. When the Water Leak Detector senses water, it triggers an audible alarm locally. More importantly, by connecting to your home's Wi-Fi network via the Wi-Fi Gateway, the system can send instant alert notifications to your smartphone through the Govee Home app or via email. This means you can receive alerts whether you are at home or away, providing peace of mind and allowing for timely intervention to mitigate damage. The communication between the Water Leak Detector and the Wi-Fi Gateway uses a 433MHz communication protocol.

Usage Features

Wi-Fi Gateway:

The Wi-Fi Gateway acts as the central hub for your water leak detection system, connecting the individual Water Leak Detectors to your Wi-Fi network and, subsequently, to the Govee Home app.

  • Wi-Fi Pairing Button: This button is used to connect the gateway to your Wi-Fi network. Pressing and holding it for 3 seconds initiates the Wi-Fi connection process.
  • 433 Pairing Button: This button is used to connect the gateway to the Water Leak Detector. Pressing and holding it for 3 seconds puts the gateway into a pairing mode, ready to receive signals from the detector.
  • LED Indicator: The LED indicator on the gateway provides visual feedback on its status:
    • Solid blue: Indicates that the gateway has successfully connected to Wi-Fi.
    • Flash blue slowly: Means the gateway is ready to connect to Wi-Fi.
    • Flash blue quickly: Shows that the gateway is currently connecting to Wi-Fi or receiving a signal from a detector during pairing.
    • Solid red: Signifies a failure to connect to Wi-Fi.
    • Flash blue and red alternately: Indicates that the gateway is ready to pair with a water leak detector.

Water Leak Detector:

The Water Leak Detector is the component responsible for sensing water.

  • Sensor Contact: These contacts on the bottom of the detector are designed to detect water drips. When a small amount of water touches these contacts, the detector is triggered.
  • Sensor Probe: This probe extends from the detector and is used to detect water leaks. It is designed to sense water over a larger area or at a specific point where a leak might occur.
  • Push Button: This button serves multiple purposes:
    • Pause Alarm: Pressing the button once will pause the alarm for 5 seconds. To stop the alarm completely, you must remove the device from water and wipe it dry.
    • Adjust Volume: Pressing the button twice within 1 second allows you to cycle through different alarm volume levels: HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW, and MUTE. The default volume is HIGH. The indicator will flash quickly during volume adjustment.
    • Pairing Signal: Pressing this button sends a pairing signal to the gateway when adding or re-adding a detector.
  • Batteries: The detector is powered by 2 AAA batteries.

Installation and Setup:

  1. Gateway Installation: Simply plug the Wi-Fi Gateway into a power outlet.
  2. Detector Placement: Lay the water leak detector flat in the desired location. It's important to keep the distance between the gateway and the detector less than 100ft (approximately 30 meters) for optimal communication.
  3. App Download: Download the Govee Home app from the App Store (for iOS devices) or Google Play (for Android devices).
  4. Wi-Fi Connection: Connect your smartphone to a 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network (5GHz networks are not supported by the gateway). Android users should enable Location services, and iOS users should set Location access for Govee Home to "Always."
  5. Gateway Pairing: Open the Govee Home app, tap the "+" icon, and select "H5040." Then, press and hold the Wi-Fi Pairing Button on the gateway for 3 seconds until the LED flashes blue slowly. Follow the on-screen instructions in the app to complete the Wi-Fi connection. Once connected, the gateway's LED will turn solid blue, and you should see the water leak detector in your device list.
  6. Detector Pairing (if needed): While detectors are typically added by default when the gateway connects to Wi-Fi, if you need to add or re-add a detector, press and hold the 433 Pairing Button on the gateway for 3 seconds until its LED flashes red and blue alternately. Then, place the detector near the gateway and press the Push Button on the detector. The detector will beep and its LED will show red for 2 seconds, sending a pairing signal. The gateway's LED will flash blue quickly as it receives the signal. Once paired, the gateway's LED will turn solid blue. Swipe down the device list in the app to refresh and find the newly added device.

Notification Settings:

The Govee Home app allows for comprehensive customization of alert notifications:

  • App Notifications: Within the app, select your water leak detector and tap the setting icon. You can enable/disable "Receive information push" for water leak alerts, turn on/off "Sound alarm" for app notifications, and enable/disable "Vibration alarm" for app notifications.
  • Email Notifications: Go to "My Profile" in the app and tap "Notification settings." Here, you can enable/disable "Receive information push" for email notifications regarding water leaks.

Maintenance Features

Checking the Water Leak Detector:

  • Insulation Sheet Removal: Before using the detector, ensure you pull out the insulation sheet vertically from the battery compartment.
  • Functionality Check: Press the Push Button on the detector once. It should beep after 1 second, indicating it is working correctly. If not, you may need to replace the batteries.
  • Battery Replacement: To replace batteries, open the back cover using a PH00/PH0 screwdriver and insert new AAA batteries.
  • Low Battery Indication: When the battery is low, the device will sound "dididi" and flash red slowly, prompting you to replace the batteries.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides guidance for common issues:

  • Gateway Connection Issues: If the gateway cannot connect to Wi-Fi or the connection is unstable, ensure you are using a 2.4GHz network, verify the Wi-Fi name and password, place the gateway within router signal coverage, and avoid obstructions like metal doors or walls between the gateway and detectors.
  • Detector Malfunction: If the water leak detector is not working, confirm the insulation sheet has been removed, check and potentially re-install the batteries, and verify if the battery is low.
  • No/Delayed Notifications: For notification issues, Android users should ensure Location is on, and iOS users should set Govee Home's Location access to "Always." Keep the gateway and detector as close as possible, avoid obstructions, and note that the time interval between two water detections should be longer than 90 seconds for notifications to push. Also, check if the gateway's indicator flashes when the detector is triggered; if not, re-add the detector.

Warnings:

  • Operating Environment: The devices should operate within a temperature range of 32°F - 140°F (0°C - 60°C) and humidity below 90%RH.
  • Handling: Do not disassemble the devices violently.
  • Battery Safety: There is a risk of explosion if the battery is replaced by an incorrect type. Always dispose of used batteries according to instructions.
