Overview

The device is a portable grill, marketed as "The Ultimate Portable Grill" under the brand GRILLOTIME. It is designed for outdoor use and features a compact, cylindrical shape with a black outer shell and an orange inner shell in the provided image, though other color models are available.

Function Description:

The Grill Time portable grill is designed for convenient outdoor cooking, utilizing charcoal as its fuel source. Its primary function is to provide a portable grilling solution that minimizes smoke and flare-ups, making it suitable for various outdoor activities such as tailgating, picnics, or camping. The grill incorporates a battery-powered fan system that accelerates the charcoal's heating process and allows for temperature control during cooking. This fan helps to distribute heat evenly and ensures efficient burning of charcoal. The design also focuses on safety, with features that prevent grease from dripping directly onto the charcoal, thereby reducing flare-ups and dangerous smoke. The outer shell is designed to remain cool to the touch, allowing for safe transportation even when the grill is lit.

Usage Features:

The grill is designed for ease of use, from setup to cooking.

  1. Preparation: Before first use, it's important to read the instruction manual thoroughly. The grill components should be disassembled and checked to ensure all items are included. For the first use, the charcoal drum may have a thin coating of oil from manufacturing, which will cause some smoke. A 3-5 minute "burn off" period is recommended to remove this oil.
  2. Battery Installation: The grill requires 4 AA batteries (included) to power the fan. These are installed in a battery box, which should be kept dry.
  3. Charcoal Loading: The charcoal drum is filled with the desired amount of charcoal. The grill is designed to use approximately 80% less charcoal than a regular charcoal grill, making it more efficient.
  4. Ignition: Lighter gel (Grill Time Lighting Gel or comparable gel is recommended) is applied to the center of the ignition plate in a circular shape. The fan control knob is then turned clockwise to its maximum "ON" position to accelerate the heating process. The starter gel is lit with a long-stem trigger lighter.
  5. Assembly for Cooking: Once the gel is lit, the charcoal drum is placed over the ignition plate. The grate is then placed on top of the grill and locked into position using two latches on the side of the outer grill shell.
  6. Temperature Control: After an initial 3 to 4 minute start-up period, the cooking temperature can be adjusted by turning the fan control knob clockwise (higher) or counter-clockwise (lower). This allows users to fine-tune the heat for different types of food.
  7. Cooking: The charcoal should be allowed to burn for at least 3 minutes before cooking begins. The stainless steel inner shell distributes heat evenly across the grate, promoting better cooking results. The center plate on the barbeque grate prevents grease from dripping onto the charcoal, minimizing flare-ups and smoke.
  8. Portability: The tough, powder-coated outer shell remains cool to the touch, enabling safe carrying of the grill even when it is lit. Locking buckles hold all components in place, preventing dangerous spills during transport.

Maintenance Features:

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of the grill.

  1. Cooling Down: It is crucial to allow the grill to cool down completely before attempting any cleaning. Never clean a hot grill, as this can cause severe burns and damage components. Do not use water or other liquids to cool the grill; allow it to cool naturally or use the built-in fan. Similarly, do not pour water or other liquids into the charcoal drum to extinguish charcoal; let it cool naturally.
  2. Cleaning Components: The grate and inner bowl are dishwasher safe, making cleanup convenient. They can also be washed by hand using regular dishwashing soap. Grill Time recommends cleaning the grill grate, inner bowl, and any other dirty components after each use.
  3. Care for Electrical Components: When cleaning, special care must be taken to ensure that the bottom of the grill, the battery box, and the fan assembly are not exposed to water or moisture of any kind.
  4. Prohibited Cleaning Agents: Do not use any acidic solvents or flammable liquids for cleaning or operating the grill.
  5. Storage: When storing the grill for extended periods of non-use, it is important to remove the batteries from the battery box to prevent potential damage.

The grill is strictly for outdoor use in well-ventilated spaces, as burning charcoal produces carbon monoxide, a tasteless, odorless, and potentially deadly gas. It is not intended for indoor cooking in homes, vehicles, tents, or other enclosed areas. Users are warned about carbon monoxide exposure, which is known to cause birth defects or other reproductive harm. The grill should be kept out of reach of children and pets, and never left unattended while hot. Only Grill Time Lighting Gel or comparable lighting gel should be used for ignition; mineral spirits, lighter fluid, gasoline, or other flammable liquids are strictly prohibited.
