Overview

The device is an Air Cleaning System, specifically models AC5300 and AC5350 Series, manufactured by Guardian Technologies. Its primary function is to improve indoor air quality through a multi-level cleaning process.

Function Description:

The air cleaning system utilizes several levels of filtration and purification to capture allergens, remove odors, and enhance germ-killing.

  1. Pre-Filter: This initial layer is designed to capture larger dust and allergen particles.
  2. Activated Carbon Filter: This filter, combined with the pre-filter into a single layer, uses charcoal and activated carbon to control and prevent the growth of bacteria, germs, and mold, while also removing odors.
  3. UV-C Light Technology: A UV-C bulb (5W, Model No. LB4000) works in conjunction with a Titanium Dioxide (TiO2) treated metal shield. The UV-C light activates the TiO2 to decompose remaining odor molecules caused by smoking, cooking, and pets, and enhances the elimination of airborne germs.

The product complies with energy efficiency guidelines, having earned the ENERGY STAR label from the U.S. EPA. It also adheres to ozone emission standards, with an 8-hour TWA Ozone of 0.001 ppmv when tested in a 30 m³ chamber, well below the maximum allowable concentration of 0.050 ppmv in a 24-hour period and Health Canada's recommended maximum exposure limit of 0.020 ppmv.
