Overview

The Haden Dorchester Kettle is a stylish and functional electric kettle designed for household use, offering precise temperature control and a "Keep Warm" function, making it ideal for various hot beverages, especially different types of tea. Established in England in 1958, Haden emphasizes quality and design in its products, and this kettle is no exception, featuring a classic aesthetic with modern capabilities.

Function Description:

The Haden Dorchester Kettle is primarily designed for boiling water quickly and efficiently. Its key distinguishing feature is the ability to select and maintain specific water temperatures, which is crucial for brewing different types of tea and other hot drinks that require precise heat. The kettle includes a "Keep Warm" mode that can hold the water at a desired temperature for up to 40 minutes, ensuring that hot water is readily available without re-boiling. It operates on a power base, allowing for cordless pouring and easy placement. The kettle is equipped with a removable filter to prevent lime scale particles from pouring into beverages, enhancing the quality of your drink. Safety features include automatic shut-off when water boils or when the kettle boils dry, and a safety cut-out that resets after cooling.

  • Voltage: 220-240V ~ 50/60Hz
  • Capacity: Up to 1.7 liters (7 cups)
  • Temperature Control Range (Keep Warm): 40 - 95 °C
  • Automatic Shut-off: Yes, when water boils or boils dry.
  • Safety Cut-out: Automatically resets after 15 minutes of cooling if boiled dry.
  • Filter: Removable, for scale protection.

Usage Features:

The Dorchester Kettle is designed for user-friendly operation with intuitive controls located on the handle.

  • Filling: To fill, remove the kettle from its power base, pull up the lid knob to remove the lid, and ensure the removable filter is in place. Fill with cold tap water, using the water window as a guide for desired volume (2 cups up to 1.7 liters). Replace the lid securely.
  • Boiling Water: Place the filled kettle on the power base and plug it into the mains supply. The display will show the current water temperature. Press the ON/OFF button to start boiling; the kettle defaults to 100°C.
  • Temperature Selection: While boiling, users can adjust the target temperature using the "+" and "-" buttons. The display will show the chosen temperature, and a heating icon will flash. After 5 seconds of no interaction, the heating icon will stop flashing, and the kettle will heat to the selected temperature. The display continuously shows the current and rising water temperature.
  • Keep Warm Mode: After boiling, press the "Keep Warm" button (SSS) and use the "+" or "-" buttons to select the desired temperature between 40-95°C. If the water temperature drops below the set "Keep Warm" temperature, the kettle will re-boil to reach it. This mode maintains the temperature for 40 minutes. To cancel, press the ON/OFF button or the "Keep Warm" button.
  • Tea Brewing Guide: The manual provides an infographic with recommended temperatures and steeping times for various teas, including White (70-80°C/1-3 min), Green (70-85°C/1-3 min), Yellow (70-85°C/1-2 min), Oolong (70-80°C/2-3 min), Rooibos (90-100°C/5-6 min), Herbal (85-100°C/4-5 min), Black (85-100°C/3-5 min), and Pu-Erh (85-100°C/2-5 min). This feature highlights the kettle's suitability for tea enthusiasts.
  • Safety Precautions: Users are advised to read all instructions before first use, avoid touching hot surfaces, use handles/knobs, and ensure the kettle is placed on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Children aged 8 and above can use the kettle with supervision. The kettle and cord should be kept out of reach of children under 8. Avoid contact with steam from the spout and pour boiling water slowly. Do not immerse the cord, plug, or any part of the kettle in water. Ensure water level is between MIN and MAX lines and the lid is closed. If the kettle boils dry, allow it to cool for 15 minutes before refilling.

Maintenance Features:

The Haden Dorchester Kettle is designed for easy cleaning and maintenance to ensure longevity and optimal performance.

  • General Cleaning: Before cleaning, unplug the base and allow the kettle to cool completely. Empty any remaining water.
  • Filter Cleaning: The removable filter should be pulled out and washed in hot, soapy water, then rinsed. It can also be placed in the utensil holder of a dishwasher.
  • Interior Cleaning: Wash the inside of the kettle with hot, soapy water and rinse thoroughly.
  • Exterior Cleaning: Wipe the exterior of the kettle and its base with a damp cloth or sponge, then dry.
  • Important Cleaning Notes: Never immerse the kettle in water or other liquids, and do not place it in a dishwasher. Avoid using abrasive soaps, cleansers, or scouring pads, as these can damage the kettle's surface. Discoloration of the heating element over time is normal and does not affect performance.
  • Descaling: Over time, lime scale can build up, causing the kettle to heat up but not boil efficiently. To descale:
    1. Fill the kettle with 4 cups of cold tap water and bring it to a boil.
    2. Add 2 cups of white vinegar and let the solution stand for at least 1 hour or overnight.
    3. Discard the solution.
    4. Fill the kettle to the maximum fill line with cold water, bring to a boil, and discard. Repeat this step to ensure all vinegar residue is removed. The kettle is then ready for use.

The Haden Dorchester Kettle comes with a 2-year warranty (UK & Ireland only) covering faulty materials or workmanship, provided the product is used domestically and according to instructions. Haden offers customer support via phone (01909 544 570, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm) and email (info@haden.com). The product is also marked with the WEEE symbol, indicating it should be disposed of responsibly at designated collection points for electrical and electronic equipment recycling.
