This document describes the Haier BD-88DEM / HF-100 Upright Freezer, providing details on its functions, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.
Function Description:
The Haier Upright Freezer is designed for household use, specifically for storing food. It offers various operational modes to optimize food preservation and energy consumption. The freezer features a control panel with buttons for function selection, temperature setting, and unlocking, along with icons indicating specific modes like breast milk storage, fast-freezing, energy-conservation, freezing temperature display, alarm, and button-locked status.
The primary function is to freeze and store fresh food. It is recommended to store food with space in between for proper refrigeration, categorize food for easy retrieval, and seal food to prevent water loss and odor taint. Packing materials should be odor-free, airtight, non-poisonous, and non-toxic. Users are advised to identify food items with their name, quantity, freezing date, and storage limit date. Overloading the freezer with excessive quantities of fresh food is discouraged; users should refer to the freezer's freezing capacity.
Important Technical Specifications:
The freezer operates on an AC power supply and requires a properly earthed (grounded) socket. The socket must be fused with a 10A fuse or higher and easily accessible. The appliance should not be connected to the supply with other equipment using a distribution outlet to avoid overheating.
The climate rating indicates the ambient temperatures in which the freezer can operate effectively:
- SN: +10°C to +32°C
- N: +16°C to +32°C
- ST: +16°C to +38°C
- T: +16°C to +43°C
The nameplate, located inside the freezer compartment, provides important information about the appliance, including its valid capacity and rated power consumption, which are subject to relevant standards.
Usage Features:
- Setting Up: Before use, all packaging parts, foam base, and adhesive tape must be removed. The freezer should be placed on a flat, solid, and fire-resistant ground. After leveling and cleaning, it should remain idle for at least 6 hours before switching on. It should not be placed in damp areas, outdoors, in direct sunlight, or too close to heat sources. Adequate ventilation is crucial, with at least 10cm of space above and around the freezer. Adjustable feet allow for leveling.
- Control Panel Operation: The control panel, which may vary slightly between models (BD-88DEM and HF-100), becomes active when the plug is inserted. The display shows the current temperature. If no buttons are pressed for 30 seconds, the display turns off, and buttons lock. Pressing any button (①, ②, or ③) lights up the display. To unlock buttons, the "unlocked" button (③) must be pressed for 3 seconds.
- Temperature Setting: Once unlocked, pressing "Temp. Set" (②) makes the temperature number flash. Each subsequent press decreases the temperature by 1°C. The temperature cycle typically ranges from -25°C to -7°C, then to -14°C, and back to -25°C. The appliance is pre-set for normal operation at -18°C. The set temperature is saved automatically after 5 seconds of no pressing.
- -7°C Function: This mode maintains the freezer temperature at approximately -7°C, suitable for short-term storage of fresh meat, fish, curry, grain, etc.
- Energy-saving mode (HF-100): Activated by pressing "Func.Set" (①) when unlocked, this mode lights up the energy-conservation icon (④). In this mode, the temperature can be set between -14°C and -18°C. If the temperature was previously set lower than -19°C, it will automatically adjust to -18°C. To exit, press "Func.Set" again until the icon is off.
- Breast milk storage mode (BD-88DEM): Activated by pressing "Func.Set" (①) when unlocked, this mode lights up the breast milk storage icon (④) and automatically sets the temperature to -20°C. To exit, press "Func.Set" twice until the icon is off.
- Fast-freezing mode: This mode ensures the freezer runs continuously until the fast-freezing process ends, after which it reverts to the pre-set temperature. It can be activated by pressing "Func.Set" (①) until the fast-freezing icon (⑤) lights up. It exits automatically after 56 hours or can be manually turned off by pressing "Func.Set" again. It is recommended to start this function 24 hours in advance when storing large amounts of food. If the temperature was -7°C before fast-freezing, it will operate at -14°C after exiting.
- Alarm Signals: The alarm (indicated by icon ⑦ and flashing) sounds when the freezer compartment is not cold enough, typically due to warm air entering the freezer (e.g., during food insertion or rearrangement). The alarm will not appear within 2 hours of power-on. Pressing any button silences the audible warning, but the icon continues to flash until the cause is resolved.
- Moving the Appliance: Before moving, detach the power plug, remove all food, secure drawers and movable parts with adhesive tape, and secure the door. Do not tilt the appliance more than 45 degrees to avoid damaging the refrigerating system. Wrap the feet to prevent floor scratches and avoid moving the freezer by its handle, lid, or pipes.
- Shutting Down: If the appliance is to be shut down for an extended period, switch it off, disconnect the plug, clean it, and leave the door open to prevent odors. It is recommended not to turn off the appliance unless necessary to ensure its service life.
- Troubleshooting: The manual provides a troubleshooting guide for common issues like the appliance not working, insufficient cooling, loud running noise, hot cabinet side walls, and moisture accumulation.
Maintenance Features:
- Defrosting: Before defrosting, pull out the mains power plug. Remove frozen food and store it in a cool place. Remove drawers and glass shelves. Wipe defrosting water with a dry cloth. To speed up defrosting, place hot water on the compartment floor and leave the door open. Do not use mechanical devices or other artificial aids for defrosting.
- Cleaning: Always switch off the appliance and disconnect the power plug before cleaning. Do not use steam cleaners. Clean the inside, outer walls, and equipment with lukewarm water and a mild detergent. Avoid concentrated cleaning agents, sand, chloride, acid, chemical solvents, hard brushes, wire brushes, gasoline, amyl acetate, acetone, or similar organic solutions, as these can damage surfaces. Use a soft cloth. Do not spray or flush the freezer with water. Keep the door gasket clean. When moving for cleaning or repair, keep the freezer upright and avoid rocking it to prevent damage. Use a dry cloth for cleaning the display screen and other electrical appliances.
- Door Hinge Change-over: The door hinges can be changed if necessary. This procedure requires switching off the appliance and pulling out the mains plug or removing/unscrewing the fuse, as illustrated in FIG.2.
