Overview

The HairMax LaserComb is a home-use laser device designed to treat hereditary hair loss and promote hair growth in both men and women. It is an over-the-counter (OTC) device that can be sold directly to the public. The device works by providing laser energy to stimulate hair follicles. For optimal results, the laser must have an unobstructed path to the scalp, which is achieved through the device's teeth that part the hair.

Function Description:

The HairMax LaserComb is indicated for the treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia. For females, it is indicated for Ludwig (Savin) I-4, II-1, II-2, or frontal patterns of hair loss. For males, it is indicated for Norwood Hamilton Classifications of IIa to V. Both men and women should have Fitzpatrick Skin Types I to IV for optimal results, although the device was only tested on light to brown skin tones (Types 1, 2, 3, 4) due to limitations in digital photography and hair counting software. Clinical studies have shown that most users see benefits in as little as 16 weeks, with over 90% of participants experiencing an increase in hair count over a six-month period.

  • Treatment Duration:
    • HairMax Ultima 9 Classic: 11 minutes per treatment.
    • HairMax Ultima 12 Classic: 8 minutes per treatment.
  • Getting Started: Upon receiving the device, it must be charged for 2-3 hours before initial use.
  • Charging Options:
    • Option 1 (Charging Cradle): Place the HairMax in the charging cradle (stand) with the device turned off and teeth facing away. Plug the power cord into the cradle and then into an electrical wall outlet.
    • Option 2 (Direct Charging): Plug the power cord directly into the HairMax and then into an electrical wall outlet.
  • Indicator Lights: The indicator light on the power button flashes during charging and stops flashing when fully charged. During use, a steady, non-flashing light indicates a full battery. A slow blink indicates diminishing power, and a rapid flash indicates a low battery needing recharge.
  • Operation:
    1. Press and hold the power button until the power button light turns on.
    2. Press the laser button.
    3. Place the device flat on the scalp, ensuring both rows of teeth touch the scalp.
    4. Start at the hairline and move the HairMax slowly in a combing motion from front to back, pausing every 1½ inch (1cm) for 4 seconds. Do not lift the device off the scalp while combing.
    5. Lift the device and start at a new position at the hairline.
    6. Continue this process from front to back and side to side to cover the entire scalp with multiple passes.
    7. For long hair, use fingers to part the hair to ensure laser energy reaches the scalp.
  • Beep/Vibration Feature: The device beeps and vibrates every four seconds to indicate when to move to the next area of the scalp. This feature can be turned off by pressing the laser button once during treatment and reactivated by pressing it twice.
  • Turning Off: Press and hold the power button until the indicator light turns off.
  • Sensitivity Test: Before beginning treatment, test for sensitivity by holding the device on one spot on the forearm for two minutes. Observe the spot for redness or rash over the next five minutes. If a reaction occurs, do not use the device and contact customer service.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Avoid direct eye exposure to the laser light or its reflection.
    • Do not use a magnifying glass with the HairMax.
    • Keep out of reach of children and pets.
    • Do not drop in water or use near heated surfaces.
    • Do not use if the cord is damaged.
    • Do not touch charging contacts or USB-port.

    • To clean the teeth, slide them towards the top of the HairMax and gently pull them out. Clean with soap and water. Avoid solvents or harsh cleansers.
    • To replace the teeth, align the guides and slide them down until they lock into place. Replacement teeth can be ordered online or through customer service.
  • Storage: When not in use, store the device in the charging cradle. It can remain plugged into the charging cradle. Store in a dry room, protected from extreme moisture, heat, lint, dust, and direct sunlight. Do not place heavy objects on the storage case.
