Overview

This document describes the Hampton Bay Summerfield 44", 50K BTU Gas Fire Pit, Model # 2102FP, an outdoor decorative gas appliance designed for residential use.

Function Description:

The Hampton Bay Summerfield Gas Fire Pit is a self-contained outdoor appliance that uses LP (liquid propane) gas to produce a decorative flame. It is intended for outdoor use only in a well-ventilated space and should not be used in a building, garage, or any other enclosed area. The fire pit provides warmth and ambiance, with a burner designed to be covered with lava rock media. It features a control panel for ignition and flame adjustment, and a back panel that can be opened for access to the LP-gas cylinder.

  • LP-gas Cylinder Requirements: Must be equipped with a Type 1 connector and an OPD (overfill protection device). Must be constructed and marked in accordance with U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) or National Standard of Canada, CAN/CSA-B339.
  • Maximum Inlet Gas Supply Pressure: 250 psi
  • Minimum Inlet Gas Supply Pressure: 25 psi
  • Battery Type: LR03 AAA batteries (not included) for the igniter.
  • Lava Rock Usage: Suggested maximum of 2.5-3 kgs on the bowl.
  • Certifications: CSA (Canadian Standards Association) certified to ANSI Z21.97•CSA 2.41-2017 "Outdoor Decorative Gas Appliances."

Usage Features:

  • Assembly: The fire pit requires assembly, which involves attaching front, side, and back panels, a U-shape ring, and the table top. Hardware includes bolts, gaskets, and an Allen key. It is recommended to assemble on a soft, non-abrasive surface and may require more than one person.
  • LP-gas Cylinder Connection: The LP-gas cylinder connects to the gas pipe via a hand-tightened connector. The cylinder is secured within the fire pit's frame using a fixing ring and adjusting screw.
  • Ignition:
    1. Ensure the cover is removed.
    2. Control knob must be in the "OFF" position.
    3. Connect and open the propane cylinder valve.
    4. Push and turn the control knob counter-clockwise to "LOW."
    5. Press the igniter button repeatedly until the burner lights.
    6. Hold the control knob for 45 seconds after the flame lights.
    7. If ignition fails, turn the control knob clockwise to "OFF," ventilate the area for 5 minutes, then repeat the procedure.
    8. Adjust the flame to the desired level using the control knob.
  • Flame Characteristic: Normally, the burner flame is yellow. A blue and very small flame may indicate low gas pressure or an empty cylinder. Flames lifting away from the burner, backfire, or thick black smoke indicate a problem, and the unit should be turned off immediately and serviced by a qualified technician.
  • Shutdown:
    1. Push in and turn the control knob clockwise to the "OFF" position.
    2. Turn the LP cylinder gas valve clockwise to the "OFF" position when the appliance is not in use.
  • Safety Features:
    • Equipped with an OPD (overfill protection device) on the LP-gas cylinder.
    • Carbon monoxide hazard warning: Do not use in enclosed spaces.
    • Warnings against storing or using flammable vapors/liquids near the appliance.
    • Instructions to keep children and adults at a safe distance due to high surface temperatures.
    • Requirement to replace any screen or guard removed for servicing before operating.
    • Prohibition against burning solid fuels.
    • Caution against igniting the burner before lava rock media is evenly distributed and dry.
    • Warning to stay away from the fire pit for 20 minutes during initial firing as lava rock may pop.
    • Instructions to use the provided propane gas pressure regulator.
    • Requirement to inspect the LP hose and burner before each use for damage or wear.
    • Recommendation to use the cover when the fire pit is not in use and on rainy days to protect the burner system.
    • Prohibition against sitting or standing on the table.
    • Detailed leak check procedure to ensure all gas connections are secure.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Immediately remove any spots or stains.
    • Wash with mild soap, rinse with water, and air dry.
    • Do not use strong solvents or bleach, as they may damage the surface.
    • Keep control compartments, burners, and circulating air passageways clean.
  • Inspection:
    • Inspect the fire pit thoroughly before each use.
    • Have a qualified service person inspect the fire pit at least annually.
    • Inspect the hose assembly for excessive abrasion, cuts, or wear before each use and replace if damaged.
    • Inspect the burner before each use and replace if damaged.
  • Storage:
    • Storage indoors is permissible only if the LP-gas cylinder is disconnected and removed from the appliance.
    • Disconnected cylinders must have threaded valve plugs tightly installed and be stored outdoors in a well-ventilated area, out of reach of children, and not in a building, garage, or other enclosed areas.
    • Use an outdoor cover to extend the life of the item.
  • Parts Replacement: Use only factory-approved replacement parts and accessories. Contact Hampton Bay Customer Service for information regarding replacement hoses, electrodes, ignition modules, lava rocks, logs, etc.
  • Cool-down Period: Allow 45 minutes for the fire pit surfaces to cool down after use before touching or moving it. Do not use the cover immediately after use; wait until the appliance has cooled down.

Limited Warranty:

The warranty covers defects in materials and workmanship for one year from the original purchase date, applicable to patio furniture used for personal, residential purposes. Exclusions include commercial use, display models, "as is" purchases, damage from acts of nature, vandalism, misuse, improper assembly, discoloration or fading of finishes/fabrics, table top breakage, corrosion/rusting of hardware, and damages to frames/welds caused by improper assembly, misuse, or natural causes.
