Overview

This document describes the Hamron Battery Charger, a device designed for charging various types of lead-acid batteries.

Function Description

The Hamron Battery Charger is equipped with a built-in safety function that allows it to remain connected to a battery (inside or outside a vehicle) for extended periods without risking damage to the battery, even when the vehicle is used irregularly or seasonally. It also features protection against short-circuiting and incorrect connections, and it automatically restarts after a power failure.

The charger automatically adjusts the charging current based on the battery's capacity and/or charge level. It includes a "winter mode" for 12 V lead-acid and 12 V AGM batteries when the temperature is 5°C or below. Integrated overheating and spark protection are also standard features. The charging process is indicated by a flashing frame on the display, with each segment representing 20% of the charge level. Once the frame and all segments are lit, the battery is fully charged, and the product switches to standby mode.

The device is intended for household use and not for commercial applications. It should be connected via a residual current device (max. 30 mA).

Charging Process:

  1. Connection to battery (in vehicle):
    • Connect the red positive lead (+) to the positive terminal (+) on the battery.
    • Connect the black negative lead (–) to the vehicle chassis, at a safe distance from the battery and fuel lines.
    • Plug the charger into a power point. Place the charger as far from the battery as the charging cables allow.
    • After charging: Unplug the charger from the power point. Disconnect the black negative cable (–) from the chassis. Disconnect the red positive lead (+) from the positive terminal (+) on the battery.
  2. Connection to battery (outside vehicle):
    • Connect the red positive lead (+) to the positive terminal (+) on the battery.
    • Connect the black negative lead (–) to the negative terminal (–) on the battery.
    • Plug the charger into a power point. Place the charger as far from the battery as the charging cables allow.
    • After charging: Unplug the charger from the power point. Disconnect the black negative cable (–) from the negative terminal (–) on the battery. Disconnect the red positive lead (+) from the positive terminal (+) on the battery.

Display Indications (refer to Image 1):

  1. 12 V lead-acid battery
  2. 12 V AGM battery
  3. Winter mode for lead-acid and AGM batteries
  4. 6 V lead-acid battery
  5. Charging level indicator (each segment 20%)
  6. Voltage indicator
  7. Incorrect polarity indicator
  8. Defective battery indicator
  9. Poor connection indicator

The charging current may decrease if the battery temperature exceeds 40°C during charging. If the temperature exceeds 45°C, charging will stop and resume once the battery has cooled to a safe temperature.

Maintenance Features

  • Replace outgoing fuses (5 A blade fuse) as necessary.
  • Replace mains fuse as necessary.

Troubleshooting:

  • Problem: Indication of incorrect polarity is shown.
    • Cause: The battery leads have been switched.
  • Problem: The display is blank.
    • Cause: No power.
  • Problem: Indication of connection fault and voltage is shown.
    • Cause: The battery terminals are dirty or oxidized. Low or unstable charging current.
  • Problem: The display backlight is on, and the display shows 0.0 V and indication of connection fault.
    • Cause: No battery is connected.
