This document describes the installation, operation, and maintenance of the Cedar Shoals Ceiling Fan, models #40045 and #40156, from Harbor Breeze.
Function Description
The Cedar Shoals Ceiling Fan is designed to provide air circulation and illumination for indoor spaces. It features a motor assembly with five blades and an integrated light kit. The fan can be installed using either a standard/angle mount or a closemount method, depending on ceiling height and angle. The fan speed is controlled by a pull chain with four settings (HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW, and OFF), while the light kit is controlled by a separate pull chain for ON/OFF functionality. A reverse switch on the motor housing allows the user to change the direction of blade rotation, enabling different airflow patterns for warmer or cooler weather. In warmer weather, the fan can be set to push air downwards, creating a wind chill effect. In cooler weather, it can be set to draw air upwards, helping to circulate stagnant hot air from the ceiling area.
Usage Features
The fan offers flexible installation options to suit various room configurations. The standard mounting is recommended for ceilings 8 ft. or higher, with an option for a longer downrod for taller ceilings. Angle-style mounting is suitable for angled or vaulted ceilings, provided the ceiling angle does not exceed 16°. For ceilings lower than 8 ft., a closemount installation is available. Flushmount installation is not supported for this model.
Before installation, users must ensure that the chosen site allows for a minimum clearance of 7 ft. from the blades to the floor and at least 30 in. from the end of the blades to any obstruction. The fan's net weight is 17.9 lbs., and the outlet box must be securely attached to the building structure and capable of supporting at least 35 lbs. of moving weight.
The wiring process involves connecting household supply wires to the fan's lead wires (Green, White, Black, and Blue) using provided wire connectors. A second hot/power wire from the outlet box can be connected to the Blue (light power) fan wire for separate control of the light and fan. It is crucial to ensure all connections are secure and no bare wire is visible.
Once installed, the fan's operation is straightforward. The fan speed is adjusted by pulling the fan pull chain, cycling through HIGH, MEDIUM, LOW, and OFF settings. The light kit is operated by its own pull chain for ON and OFF. The reverse switch, located on the switch housing, allows for seasonal adjustment of airflow. It is important to wait for the fan to stop completely before moving the reverse switch and to ensure it is set fully to either the left or right position for proper fan function. If the switch is in the middle, the fan will not operate.
Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and safe operation of the Cedar Shoals Ceiling Fan. At least twice a year, the canopy should be lowered to check the downrod assembly, and all screws on the fan should be tightened. The motor assembly can be cleaned with a soft brush or a lint-free cloth to prevent scratching the finish. The blades should also be cleaned with a lint-free cloth.
For bulb replacement, the fan uses 60-watt max. E26-base LED, CFL, or incandescent bulbs. Halogen bulbs are not recommended. Before performing any maintenance task, including bulb replacement, the main power supply to the fan must be shut off. Water or a damp cloth should not be used to clean the fan.
The manual includes a troubleshooting guide to address common issues such as the fan not moving, being noisy, or exhibiting excessive wobbling, as well as problems with the lights not working. Solutions include checking the reverse switch, wall switch, power supply, wire connections, and ensuring all screws (blade, blade arm, mounting bracket) are tight. For wobbling, balancing the blades with the provided blade balancing kit (AD) or ensuring the mounting bracket is secure are recommended steps. If the fan is too close to a vaulted ceiling, using a longer downrod or relocating the fan may be necessary.
The product comes with a lifetime limited warranty on workmanship and materials for the fan itself, and a one-year warranty on all other fan parts (excluding glass or plastic blades). The warranty does not cover damage from accident, misuse, improper installation, or unauthorized service. It also notes that a small amount of "wobble" is normal and not considered a defect.
