The HardWire SC-2 Valve Distortion is an extreme performance pedal designed to provide guitarists with superior tone and control, offering a range of distortion effects with distinguishing features like true bypass and high voltage operation. This pedal is an essential addition to the signal chain for players who prioritize sound quality and demand the utmost in performance.

At its core, the SC-2 Valve Distortion is an effects pedal that shapes your guitar's sound by introducing various levels of distortion. It features a set of intuitive controls that allow for precise tailoring of the effect. The Level Knob is crucial for managing the overall output volume of the distortion. Turning this knob clockwise increases the output level, making your distorted signal louder, while turning it counter-clockwise decreases it. Tone shaping is a significant aspect of the SC-2, facilitated by its Low Knob and High Knob. The Low Knob controls the level of low-frequency (bass) boost or cut. Turning it counter-clockwise reduces the gain, leading to a cleaner, more subtle overdrive or crunch. This allows for a wide range of distorted sounds, from mild breakup to heavy, high-gain tones.

A unique feature of the SC-2 is its Voicing Switch, which offers two distinct distortion voicings: "Crunch" and "Saturated." The "Crunch" setting delivers a classic, balanced distortion, reminiscent of vintage tube amplifiers pushed to their limits. This voicing is ideal for rhythm guitar, blues, and rock, providing a rich harmonic content without excessive gain. The "Saturated" setting, on the other hand, introduces an extra gain stage, providing maximum sustain and a more compressed, fluid distortion. This voicing is perfect for lead guitar work, solos, and genres requiring a thick, singing tone with extended sustain. Connectivity is straightforward with the SC-2. The Input jack is where you connect your instrument or the output of another pedal. This jack also serves a dual purpose: it enables battery power when a cable is connected. To conserve battery life, it's important to disconnect the cable from the Input jack when the pedal is not in use. The Output jack connects to the input of your amplifier or the input of another pedal in your signal chain. It's important to note that the SC-2 is designed for use with unbalanced mono instrument cables only. For external power, the pedal includes a DC Adapter Jack, which allows you to connect an optional Harman PS200R power supply. Using the correct power supply for your region's mains voltage is crucial for optimal performance and safety.

Operating the pedal is simple with the Foot Switch, which toggles the effect on and off. When the effect is active, the Indicator LED illuminates. This LED also provides a useful maintenance feature: when battery power is running low (approximately 15 minutes before the battery dies), the LED will begin to dim, giving you advanced warning that a battery replacement is imminent. This prevents unexpected power loss during a performance.

Battery replacement is designed to be user-friendly. The pedal features Foot Switch Release Pins on either side of the Foot Switch. These spring-loaded hinges hold the Foot Switch in place and allow access to the battery compartment. To replace the battery, you push in one of these pins with the tip of a 1/4" guitar cable, remove the Foot Switch, disconnect the old battery, connect a new 9VDC battery, and then reassemble the Foot Switch, ensuring the battery cable doesn't interfere with the spring or pedal switch arm. When properly fastened, both Release Pins will be flush with the outer side of the pedal. In the event of complete battery depletion, HardWire pedals automatically switch into bypass, ensuring that your signal still passes through, eliminating the need to remove the pedal from your chain if the battery dies mid-performance.

The HardWire SC-2 also comes with several performance accessories designed to enhance its usability and integration into a pedalboard setup. The Hook-and-loop Pedalboard Pad allows you to securely attach the pedal to most commercial pedalboards. To apply it, you first peel off the existing rubber skid pad from the bottom of the pedal, then peel the adhesive protector from the back of the Pedalboard Pad, and finally apply the pad to the bottom of the pedal. This ensures a stable and reliable connection to your pedalboard.

For visibility on dark stages, a Foot Switch Glow Sticker is included. This sticker is applied directly to the top of the Foot Switch after peeling off its adhesive backing, making it easier to locate and activate the pedal in low-light conditions.

Finally, the StompLock™ accessory is a clever solution for preserving your preferred settings. This transparent cover fits over the pedal knobs, preventing accidental adjustments during transport or performance. To use it, you first set the knobs to your desired positions, then gently push the StompLock over the top of the knobs. To remove it, you gently lift one side and then the other. This ensures that your meticulously crafted tones remain consistent, gig after gig.
