Overview

The Harley Benton MT100 Tuner is a versatile clip-on device designed for the precise tuning of musical instruments, functioning also as a metronome and tone generator. Its compact and lightweight design, coupled with a rotatable, illuminated display, makes it a practical tool for musicians.

Function Description

The MT100 offers three primary operating modes: Tuner, Metronome, and Tone Generator.

  • Tuner Mode: This is the core function, allowing users to accurately tune various instruments. It supports chromatic tuning, as well as specific modes for guitar, bass, and violin. The device utilizes both a vibration sensor (for tuning without external noise interference) and a built-in microphone for sound detection. Users can select between standard tuning and flat tuning, with up to four semitones of flattening. The calibration (reference tone) is adjustable from 430 Hz to 450 Hz in 1 Hz steps. The display provides visual feedback with a needle and LED lights, indicating whether the tone is too high (red LED), too low (red LED), or perfectly in tune (green LED and centered needle). Tuning scales for chromatic mode include C major, Bb major, Eb major, and F major. For guitar and bass, the tuning scales are fixed to C major.

  • Metronome Mode: In this mode, the MT100 functions as a metronome, providing a steady beat for practice. The tempo range is adjustable from 30 bpm to 250 bpm. Users can select the desired volume level (four steps) and choose from various rhythm patterns. The beat count can be set from 0 to 9.

  • Tone Generator Mode: This mode allows the device to generate reference tones. Users can select the instrument type (chromatic, guitar, bass, violin) and adjust the reference pitch calibration from 430 Hz to 450 Hz. The device can generate notes from E1 (41.2 Hz) to A5 (880.00 Hz). The volume of the generated tone is also adjustable in four steps. Similar to the tuner mode, tuning scales for chromatic mode are C major, Bb major, Eb major, and F major, while guitar and bass are fixed to C major.
