The Hawksmoor 2200W Electric Chainsaw (SKU: 53454, Product Code: 53454/GY9500) is a powerful tool designed for cutting wood. It is intended for normal, household use in domestic settings and comes with a 2-year guarantee from the date of purchase or delivery.
Function Description:
This electric chainsaw is designed for felling small trees (up to 12-15cm in diameter), limbing (removing branches from a fallen tree), and bucking (cutting fallen logs into lengths). It features an automatic oiler system for continuous lubrication of the bar and chain during operation, which is crucial for preventing excessive wear and ensuring efficient cutting. The chainsaw is equipped with a two-handed safety switch, meaning it will only operate when one hand holds the front grip and the other actuates the switch on the rear grip. A chain brake mechanism provides an important safety feature, stopping the chain saw within 0.12 seconds in the event of kickback.

Usage Features:
The chainsaw is supplied with an Oregon bar, Oregon chain, and a bar cover.
- Assembly: The guide bar and saw chain are supplied separately. Users must first unscrew the lock knob (5) and remove the guide bar cover (6). The chain tensioning bolt (18) should be in the center of the guide. Gloves should always be worn when assembling, tensioning, and checking the chain due to sharp cutting edges. The cutting direction of the teeth is marked with an arrow (A) on Fig 1. The guide bar with the saw chain is placed on the guide bolt (17) and chain tensioning bolt (18), with the saw chain around the chain wheel (16). The guide bar cover (6) is then placed on top and gently tightened with the lock knob (5).
- Chain Tensioning: Before any work, the plug must be pulled from the power socket. Safety gloves are required. The saw chain (4) must be inside the guide groove of the guide bar (7). The lock knob (5) is turned clockwise by hand until the saw chain is correctly tensioned, ensuring it's not too tight. When cold, the chain should be liftable approximately 5 mm in the middle of the guide bar. The guide bar cover (6) is then securely tightened. A new saw chain requires a running-in period of approximately 5 minutes, with crucial lubrication during this stage, followed by a tension check and re-tension if necessary. Warm chains expand and may slacken, requiring re-tensioning, but must be loosened again when cool to prevent excessive tension from contraction.
- Chain Lubrication: The chainsaw features an automatic lubrication system. The oil tank cap (14) must be cleaned before opening to prevent dirt ingress. The oil gauge (15) should be checked during operation; if the oil level is approximately 5 mm from the bottom mark, oil must be topped up. The saw should never be operated without chain lubrication.
- Starting Up: Always wear safety goggles, ear muffs, protective gloves, and heavy-duty work clothes. Only approved extension cables suitable for outdoor use (rubber-sheathed, 1.5 mm² cross-section, max 75m length) should be used. To start, press the safety lock-off button (11) and the ON/OFF switch (13). The chainsaw will run at high speed immediately. To switch off, release either the ON/OFF switch (13) or the front grip switch (2).
- Kickback Prevention: Avoid sawing with the tip of the guide bar, as this can cause sudden upward and backward movement. Always use both hands and maintain a firm grip, encircling the handles with thumbs and fingers. Do not overreach or cut above shoulder height. Ensure the workpiece is firmly secured.
- Cutting Techniques:
- Felling: For small trees (12-15cm diameter), a single cut is usually sufficient.
- Limbing: Remove branches from a fallen tree. Do not remove supporting limbs until the log is bucked. Cut branches under tension from the bottom up to avoid binding the chain saw.
- Bucking: Cutting a fallen log into lengths. Ensure good footing and stand uphill on sloping ground. Support the log so the cut end is not resting on the ground. For logs supported at both ends, make a downward cut halfway, then an undercut to prevent pinching. For logs supported on one end, make an undercut (1/3 diameter) first, then an overcut to meet it. For logs supported along their entire length, cut from the top (over buck).
- Safety: Always keep all body parts away from the saw chain when operating. Hold the chainsaw with the right hand on the rear handle and the left hand on the front handle. Wear safety glasses, hearing protection, and other protective equipment (head, hands, legs, feet). Do not operate the chainsaw in a tree or on unstable surfaces.
Maintenance Features:
- Preventative Maintenance:
- Place the switch in the OFF position and disconnect from the power supply before any servicing, cleaning, or maintenance.
- Keep air intake and vents clean to prevent motor overheating.
- Clean with a damp sponge and mild soap; do not use a water hose.
- Inspect chain tension before each use and frequently during cutting.
- Clean the guide bar and bar pad to ensure a free path for oil.
- Turn the guide bar over after each use to ensure even wear.
- The motor bearings are lifetime lubricated and require no additional lubrication.
- Chain Maintenance:
- Check chain tension frequently; it should be snug but loose enough to be pulled around by hand. New chains will stretch and require frequent adjustment during the break-in period.
- Never remove more than 3 links from a chain loop, as this can damage the sprocket.
- Ensure the automatic oiler system is working correctly and the oil tank is filled with Chain, Bar, and Sprocket Oil. Insufficient lubrication leads to rapid wear, dulling, and overheating.
- Replacing the chain: Remove the clamp knob (6) and chain cover. Fit the new chain around the bar and sprocket, ensuring correct direction. Adjust tension, then fit the chain cover and tighten the bar knob securely.
- Guide Bar Maintenance:
- Turn the guide bar frequently (e.g., every 8 hours of use) to ensure even wear.
- Clean bar grooves (rails) and oil passages at the bar pad to ensure proper lubrication. This can be done with a soft wire.
- Sprocket Tip Lubrication: Recommended after each saw use. Clean the sprocket tip thoroughly. Insert a needle nose lube gun into the lubrication hole and inject grease until it appears at the outside edge. Turn the chain by hand and repeat until the entire deflection star is greased. Failure to lubricate the sprocket tip will result in poor performance, jamming, and void the warranty.
- Sharpening: The saw chain can be sharpened by specialist dealers or by the user with appropriate equipment. Follow instructions for sharpening.
- Storage: Always fit the guide bar cover when transporting or storing the chainsaw.
Safety Warnings:
- Read all safety warnings and instructions to avoid electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Keep the work area clean and well lit.
- Do not operate power tools in explosive atmospheres.
- Keep children and bystanders away.
- Power tool plugs must match the outlet; do not modify.
