Why is my HearthSense MO18HVL Indoor Fireplace log set smoking too much?
    • A
      Angela DominguezAug 13, 2025
If your HearthSense Indoor Fireplace log set is smoking or sooting excessively, it could be due to several factors. These include poor fuel quality (contact your local natural gas company), an improperly drafting fireplace venting system (adjust the damper wide open and/or have the fireplace and venting professionally cleaned and checked), excessive flame impingement or blockage (separate the logs to allow more flame passage), an improper fuel/air mixture (remove any foreign items from the flame pattern), or excessive gas supply/pressure (preheat flue in very cold weather).

Why does my HearthSense MO18HVL smell?
    • S
      Seth Wilson Jr.Aug 18, 2025
If your HearthSense Indoor Fireplace log set produces unwanted odors, it might be burning vapors from paint, hair spray, glues, cleaners, chemicals, or new carpet. Open the flue to the maximum and stop using odor-causing products while the log set is running. Another possible cause is a gas leak, in which case you should locate and correct all leaks.

This clicking or ticking noise is common with most log sets because metal expands while heating or contracts while cooling. If the noise is excessive, contact a qualified service person.
