Do you have a question about the Helite Race Suit Airbag E02 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Helite Race Suit Airbag_E02 is a personal protective equipment (PPE) designed for motorcycle riding on asphalt roads or regulated closed asphalt race tracks. It integrates an electronic triggering system to detect accidents and falls, providing protection to vital areas of the rider's body.

Function Description:

The Race Suit Airbag_E02 is an electronic airbag system that inflates upon detection of an accident or fall. It analyzes real-time rider data such as position, movement, and speed, and utilizes a GPS signal to determine if a deployment is necessary. The airbag is designed to be integrated into a compatible motorcycle suit and should not be worn alone. Its primary function is to absorb shocks and protect the thorax, abdomen, neck, and back areas during an impact.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Electronic Card (CDU): The core of the system, it analyzes rider data and detects accidents. It includes a non-removable Lithium Ion Cylindrical Battery (3.70V 2600mAh).
  • RF Characteristics: 868MHz - 916MHz (0dBm).
  • GPS Reception Frequency: 1565.42 - 1585.42MHz (GPS) / 1602 - 1610 MHz (GNSS).
  • E-cartridge: Contains pressurized CO2 gas and a pyrotechnic triggering system. The Race Suit Airbag uses an e-60 cc cartridge, which is single-use and must be replaced after each inflation.
  • Battery Autonomy: Approximately 25 hours when switched on and active (excluding sleep mode). It automatically enters sleep mode after 45 seconds of inactivity and wakes up with the slightest movement.
  • Operating Temperature: -10°C (14°F) to +45°C (113°F). Prolonged exposure outside this range can damage the airbag.
  • Lifespan: Maximum of 30 inflations and a limited lifespan of 10 years under optimal conditions.
  • Back Protector: Must always be used with a rigid back protector (carbon, plastic) of Level 2, conforming to EN 1621-2, positioned between the cartridge and the rider's back.
  • Certifications: Certified by ALIENOR CERTIFICATION (notified body n°2754) according to protocol AMC-012: 02/2020. The CDU electronic card with remote HMI is certified IEC 62368-1 / EN-62368-1 / UL62368-1 / CSA62368-1 by TÜV Rheinland (notified body n° 0197). It complies with EU Regulation 2016/425, RED (Radio Equipment Directive) 2014/53/EU, and RoHS 2011/65/EU.

Usage Features:

  • Detection Modes: Two modes are available:
    • Road Mode: Designed for use on asphalt roads with vehicle traffic. Detection is active at speeds greater than 18 km/h, covering scenarios like being hit by a vehicle, hitting an obstacle, loss of control, slipping, high side, and low side.
    • Race Track Mode: Designed for use on regulated closed asphalt race tracks. Detection is active at speeds greater than 45 km/h, covering scenarios like being hit by a vehicle, hitting an obstacle, loss of control, slipping, high side, low side, and speed wobble.
    • The default mode is Race Track. Users can switch between modes by pressing the ON/OFF button on the CDU or remote HMI.
  • Switching On/Off: Press the ON/OFF button on the CDU electronic card (located in the hump) or the remote HMI (also in the hump) three times quickly. Three beeps will sound, and a green (road mode) or pink (race track mode) LED will flash. To switch off, repeat the process; three beeps will sound, and the LED will turn off.
  • Battery Charging: The airbag should be recharged weekly and before each use. It uses a standard USB charger (5 VDC, 1A) (not supplied) and the provided USB cable. The LED will flash orange when the battery is low, turn solid orange when charging, and turn solid green when fully charged. Charging takes 5 to 12 hours under optimal conditions. The airbag is not functional during charging.
  • Installation: The airbag is installed within a compatible suit, positioned between the suit and its inner lining. Specific velcro straps and snaps ensure correct placement. The e-cartridge, CDU, and remote HMI are housed within the suit's hump.
  • Pre-use Check: Before each use, verify the airbag's condition (no tears or wear), correct integration into the suit, new and connected e-cartridge, sufficient battery charge, and activated detection mode matching the riding practice.
  • Compatibility: Must only be worn with HELITE-approved compatible suits. A list of approved manufacturers is available on helite.com.
  • Restrictions: Not for use by pregnant women, minors without required morphology (unless accompanied by a responsible adult), or individuals with pacemakers/electro-medical devices or recent surgery in covered areas (unless cleared by a doctor).

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: Do not machine wash, immerse in water, or dry clean. Clean with a soft cloth lightly soaked in soap. Do not use detergents or bleach. Air dry on a hanger in a dry place, away from heat sources or direct sunlight. Do not iron. Helite offers cleaning packages.
  • Annual E-cartridge Check: Annually check the weight and condition of the e-cartridge. The airbag must be switched off. Unplug and unscrew the cartridge, then weigh it on an accurate scale. The weight should be within +/- 3g of the weight indicated on the label for an e-60 cc cartridge. Inspect the connector wire for good condition, corrosion, or dents. Reinstall if no issues are found.
  • Annual Servicing: Even if functioning correctly, an annual service is recommended after the first use. Contact a dealer or Helite customer service for servicing.
  • Post-Inflation Reconditioning: After inflation, the airbag deflates gradually. Check for visible damage (tears, abrasions). The cartridge is empty and must be replaced with a new Helite cartridge of the same reference (e-60 cc). Follow specific steps for reconditioning, ensuring the airbag is placed on the motorcycle rather than the ground to prevent foreign bodies from entering.
  • Storage: Store the airbag switched off, at temperatures below 45°C (113°F), away from moisture, light, flammable surfaces, heavy objects, rodents, and children. Do not store folded or rolled up; use a hanger.
  • Transport: The airbag must be switched off during transport to prevent accidental triggering. For air travel, consult helite.com FAQ for the latest recommendations and obtain prior written approval from the airline, carrying the user manual and IATA documents for dangerous goods.
  • Warranty: Covered by a 2-year legal warranty against manufacturing defects. Helite offers a free 2-year warranty extension on the airbag sheath (excluding textiles and the CDU electronic card) upon registration on my.helite.com. A 10-year warranty is offered on e-cartridges, excluding misuse or improper maintenance.
  • After-Sales Service: Contact Helite customer service for issues like post-accident condition checks, visible damage, electronic card/cartridge deterioration, battery not switching on/charging, or abnormal wear. Unauthorized repairs void the warranty.
  • Recycling: Do not dispose of the airbag or its components with household waste. Consult local waste sorting rules for electronic, metal, plastic, and textile waste. Return end-of-life airbags to designated collection points or send them to Helite's address.
