Overview

The HEXFLY PRO-X2 Charger is a 2-channel balance charger designed for various battery chemistries. It features dual charge circuitry, allowing it to charge two batteries simultaneously, regardless of battery chemistry or cell count.

Function Description:

The PRO-X2 is a multi-chemistry capable, rapid charger/discharger and cell balancer with built-in microprocessors. It can charge and discharge Li-ion, LiPo, LiHV, LiFe, NiMH, NiCd, and Pb battery types. The charger operates on both AC (100V-240V) and DC (11.0V-18.0V) power sources. • Pb (Lead-acid): Max. charge voltage: 2.46V/cell, Allowable fast charge current: 0.4C or less, Discharge voltage cut-off level: 1.50V/cell or higher.

Usage Features:

The charger includes multiple charging leads for common connection types: JST Plug (1), Alligator Clip (1), XT60 Plug (2), Receiver Plug (1), Tamiya Plug (1), T-Plug (1), EC3 Plug (1), EC5 Plug (1), HXT 4mm (1), and Balance Block (2).

The user interface includes "Batt type/Stop" to select the main program or stop an operation, "Channel Selection" to switch between channel 1 or 2, "Dec/Inc" to select sub-programs or alter values, and "Start/Enter" to resume or start an operation. Channel lights indicate the active channel.

Initial User Parameter Setup:

Upon power-up, the charger displays default values. Users can change these parameters using the "Start/Enter" key to make values blink for editing, then "Inc/Dec" keys to adjust, and "Start/Enter" again to save. It is crucial to select the correct battery type (LiFe, Li-ion, LiPo, LiHV) to prevent damage. The charger automatically recognizes the cell count of lithium batteries and compares it to selected settings, sounding an alarm if there's a mismatch. The "CHK TIME" parameter allows delaying cell detection for over-discharged batteries, but extreme caution is advised.

NiMH/NiCd Sensitivity:

The trigger voltage for automatic peak detection of NiMH and NiCd batteries can be set from 5 to 20mV per cell. Incorrect settings can lead to overcharging or premature termination. Default values are 12mV for NiCd and 7mV for NiMH.

USB/Temp Port:

A 3-pin port can be configured as a temperature sensor port. An optional temperature probe can be used to monitor battery surface temperature, and the charger will terminate the process if the set maximum temperature is reached. The charger does not connect to a PC.

Waste Time:

This setting inserts a time delay (1-60 minutes) after charge/discharge cycles to allow the battery to cool down before the next process.

Safety Timer:

A safety timer (default 120 minutes) prevents accidental overcharging or acts as a failsafe if the termination circuit fails. The charger stops charging once this limit is reached.

Capacity Cut-Off:

This feature stops the charging process at a selected capacity value, useful if nominal pack voltage is not detected or the safety timer doesn't expire.

Key Beep/Buzzer:

Allows users to turn off individual button beeps and musical tones for mode changes.

Input Power Low Cut-Off:

When using a 12V DC power source (e.g., lead-acid battery), this setting monitors incoming voltage and terminates operation if the voltage drops below the selected value, protecting the input battery.

Charging Lithium Batteries (Li-ion/LiPo/LiHV/LiFe):

Users must select the correct chemistry type and set the charge current and nominal voltage. The charger supports "Balance Mode" for multi-cell lithium batteries, requiring the balance plug to be connected for individual cell monitoring and balancing. "Fast Charging" reduces charge time but may not fully charge the pack. "Storage Mode" charges/discharges the battery to a nominal storage voltage (3.75V for LiPo/Li-ion, 3.80V for LiHV, 3.3V for LiFe) for long-term storage, requiring the balance plug.

Discharging Lithium Batteries:

Allows discharging to a defined voltage or to determine residual capacity. Users set discharge current (never exceed 1C) and final voltage (never below manufacturer's recommendation). Balance plug connection is required for proper discharge.

LIHV Mode Instructions:

The LiHV mode specifically supports 4.35V LiHV batteries. It is critical not to use this mode for other battery types, especially 4.20V LiPo, to avoid fire or explosion.

NiMH/NiCd Battery Programs:

For NiMH/NiCd batteries, users set the charge current (1C rating for "AUT" mode) or manually set the current for "MAN" mode. The charger also supports discharging and cycling (charge/discharge or discharge/charge sequences, 1-5 cycles) for NiMH/NiCd batteries to optimize capacity and address memory effect.

Pb (Lead Sulfuric Acid) Battery Program:

Charges Pb batteries with nominal voltages from 2V to 20V. Optimal charge rate is 1/10 of capacity, and rapid charging is not recommended.

Battery Meter Testing Programs:

A valuable diagnostic tool that displays individual cell voltages and total pack voltage. Requires both charge and balance leads to be connected.

Data Storage and Loading:

The charger can store up to 5 battery profiles (charge/discharge parameters) for quick recall, eliminating the need to reprogram settings for frequently used batteries.

Warning and Error Messages:

The manual provides a comprehensive list of warning and error messages, such as "REVERSE POLARITY," "CONNECTION BREAK," "SHORT ERR," "INPUT VOL ERR," "VOL SELECT ERR," "BREAK DOWN," "BATTERY CHECK LOW VOLTAGE/HIGH VOLTAGE," "BATTERY VOL ERR CELL CONNECT," "TEMP OVER ERR," "CONTROL FAILURE," and messages related to battery balance port or individual cell voltages being too low or high.

Maintenance Features:

The manual emphasizes safety precautions, including never leaving the charger unsupervised, keeping it away from dust, water, heat, direct sunlight, and vibration, and using it on a heat-resistant, non-flammable, non-conductive surface. It also advises against disassembling battery packs and to always connect charge cables correctly to avoid short-circuits.

Warranty and Service:

HEXFLY warrants the product to be free of material and workmanship defects for 90 days from purchase (30 days for electronic components). The warranty does not cover wear and tear, crash damage, modifications, improper maintenance, or damages from improper use. All warranty claims are directed to Redcat Customer Service.
