Do you have a question about the HID ACURA Edge-30R+ and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

The Acura Edge-30R+ and Edge-30R-N+ readers are high-performance UHF RFID devices designed for vehicular access control solutions. These readers offer robust tag reading capabilities and a range of features that make them suitable for various applications, from mining and steel to agriculture, food processing, logistics, retail, transportation, and asset management. The devices are designed for ease of use, requiring no complex software or API/SDK for basic operation, and feature automatic tag reading.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Acura Edge-30R+ and Edge-30R-N+ readers is to identify UHF RFID tags, typically used for vehicular access control. They operate in two main modes: Continuous Reading Mode and Trigger Reading Mode. In Continuous Mode, the reader constantly performs inventory operations, reading any tags that enter its field and sending the data through communication ports. If no tags are present, it sends a Keepalive String at configurable intervals. In Trigger Mode, the reader only performs read operations when it receives a signal from a connected sensor via its digital input. Even in Trigger Mode, the reader continues to send Keepalive Strings via Ethernet.

The readers transmit reading results in real-time to a PC/Controller and support Wiegand (26/34-bit), Abatrack (10/14-digit), and TCP/IP Ethernet communication. Configuration is managed via an HTML web page or ASCII messages sent over a socket connection. The devices support up to two simultaneous TCP/IP connections for receiving read data. A key feature is the "Secure Autoid System," which ensures that only end-user tags are read, filtering out toll tags or tags from other locations.

The PCI Interface, an optional board, simplifies connections between the reader and the customer's controller. It features RJ45 connectors and post-type terminals, designed for quick and easy setup, and can be fixed on a DIN rail.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Installation: The readers can be mounted on poles or walls, with the cable facing top or sides without affecting performance due to the integrated circular polarization antenna.
  • Flexible Power and Communication: Power is supplied via a PoE Injector, simplifying wiring. The PCI Interface is used for Wiegand/Abatrack communication and digital I/O, connecting to the reader via an RJ45 cable.
  • Web-Based Configuration: Readers are configured via a web browser using their IP address. Default settings include an IP address derived from the MAC address (169.254.xxx.yyy) and a default login password (acura@autoid).
  • ASCII Command Configuration: Advanced users or software applications can configure the reader using ASCII messages over a TCP connection on a dedicated configuration port (default 9090).
  • Reading Parameter Customization: Users can adjust reading power, filter tags by signal level (RSSI), and define masks for tag IDs to be read, enhancing control over the reading field.
  • Data String Customization: The format of the data string sent via TCP/IP and RS232 can be customized using keywords (e.g., IDHEX, RDCT, RSSI, TMSTP, TYPE, ALIVE) to ensure compatibility with existing software systems.
  • Keepalive String: The reader sends a configurable Keepalive String at regular intervals, allowing the host system to monitor connection status even when no tags are being read.
  • Digital Input/Output Control: The opto-isolated digital input supports various sensor types (dry contact, NPN, PNP) for trigger mode. The digital output, controlled by a relay, can be activated via Ethernet commands for applications like gate control.
  • Syslog Integration: The reader implements the Syslog protocol (RFC 5424) to send log and status messages to a Syslog server, aiding in diagnosis and monitoring.

Maintenance Features:

  • Firmware Updates: The device includes firmware and bootloader versions that can be updated.
  • Status Monitoring: The reader provides visual indicators (LEDs) for operating status (Continuous Read, Tag Read, Trigger/Standby Modes) and PoE injector status (power, connection). Detailed status parameters, including internal temperature, uptime, and communication link status, are available via the web interface and ASCII commands.
  • Troubleshooting Tools: The Device Explorer software (for Windows) helps discover readers on the network and identify their IP and MAC addresses. Syslog messages provide comprehensive diagnostic information.
