Most modern vehicles have speakers that are
mounted directly to the structure of the door. Access
is achieved by the removal of the door panel. Some
vehicles may only require the removal of a small
panel around the speaker itself.
Most rear speakers are
accessed from within the
trunk. Some may require the
removal of the rear package
tray. Hatchbacks and SUV’s
will usually require the
removal of a side panel.
Once the factory speakers are
removed, check the t and
determine if there is enough
depth clearance for the new
speaker. A good way to do this is
to roll the window down and back
up while holding the speaker in
place. If you decide to run wires,
make sure to use factory harness
boots and grommets where ever
possible.

CAUTION
Always consider consulting a professional audio installer
before installing new speakers. Many car manufacturers locate
speakers behind interior panels that require special tools to
remove those panels to access the speakers. Some panels will
be screwed in, some will use plastic fasteners, many will have
both. Be careful and take your time.
If you are using the speaker wire supplied with your new
speakers make sure that you run the speaker wires through
the factory boot. Do not let speaker wire make contact with
metal edges of doors or other access holes.

Overview

This document serves as a "Quick Start Installation" guide for Hifonics car speakers, designed to help users quickly install and begin using their new audio system. It provides essential information for both coaxial and component speaker installations, along with guidance on factory speaker removal, custom mounting, and wiring. For more detailed information, users are directed to the Hifonics website.

Function Description

The Hifonics speakers are designed to upgrade a vehicle's audio system, providing enhanced sound quality for music playback. The guide covers the installation process for various speaker types, including coaxial speakers and component systems with separate tweeters and crossovers. The primary function of this guide is to facilitate the physical installation of these speakers into a vehicle's existing audio infrastructure.

Usage Features

Pre-Installation Checks: Before beginning installation, the guide emphasizes the importance of confirming that the purchased speakers are the correct size for the vehicle. It recommends contacting a professional if there are any reservations about completing the installation independently, as removing interior panels can be complex and may require specialized tools.

Factory Speaker Removal: The guide outlines methods for removing existing factory speakers, which is a necessary first step for installing the new Hifonics speakers.

  • Door Speakers (A): For most modern vehicles, speakers are mounted directly to the door structure, requiring the removal of the door panel. Some vehicles might only need a small panel around the speaker itself to be removed.
  • Rear Speakers (B): Rear speakers are typically accessed from within the trunk. This may involve removing the rear package tray. Hatchbacks and SUVs usually require the removal of a side panel.

Coaxial Speaker Installation: This section details how to install coaxial speakers into existing factory locations.

  • Behind Door Panel (A): Once the speaker fit and clearance are confirmed, users should connect the positive and negative wires to the appropriate terminals, securely screw the speaker into place, and then replace the door panel.
  • Behind Small Panel (B): Similar to door panel installation, after confirming fit and clearance, connect the wires, screw the speaker securely, and replace the speaker cover panel.
  • Custom Location (C): For vehicles without a suitable door speaker location, the guide notes that custom installation is possible but more difficult, recommending professional assistance for such scenarios.
  • Rear Factory Locations (D): Speakers should be mounted in the same way the factory speakers were, with positive and negative wires attached to the correct terminals and all wires secured properly.

Component Speaker Installation: For component systems, which typically include separate woofers, tweeters, and crossovers, the guide provides specific instructions.

  • Factory Location Behind Door Panel (A): Vehicles with premium sound systems often have dedicated tweeter locations in the dash or door. The guide suggests using these locations for mounting the component tweeter if possible.
  • Custom Location (B): If no suitable factory location exists for the woofer or tweeter, custom mounting may be necessary. Users are advised to ensure adequate mounting depth before making any permanent changes to the vehicle.
  • Tweeter Mounting (C): Two primary methods for mounting tweeters are surface mount and flush mount. The guide illustrates the flush mount configuration.
  • Crossover Wiring (D): The crossover is an essential component for the proper operation of the component speaker system. It must be secured to a surface free from interference from window mechanisms and excessive moisture.

Fit and Wiring: After removing factory speakers, users should check the fit of the new Hifonics speakers, particularly ensuring enough depth clearance. A practical tip involves rolling the window up and down while holding the speaker in place to verify clearance. If running new wires, it's crucial to use factory harness boots and grommets wherever possible to protect the wiring.

General Installation Advice: The guide includes a "CAUTION" warning, advising users to consult a professional audio installer before installing new speakers. It highlights that many car manufacturers place speakers behind interior panels that require special tools for removal. Panels may be secured with screws, plastic fasteners, or both. Users are encouraged to be careful and take their time during the process. If using the supplied speaker wire, it must be routed through the factory boot and kept away from metal edges of doors or other access holes to prevent damage.

Maintenance Features

The guide does not explicitly detail maintenance features for the speakers themselves, as it primarily focuses on installation. However, implicit maintenance considerations include:

  • Proper Wiring: Ensuring speaker wires are run through factory boots and grommets, and kept away from metal edges, helps prevent damage to the wiring and speakers, thereby extending their lifespan.
  • Secure Mounting: Securely screwing speakers into place and properly securing all wires prevents vibrations and potential damage during vehicle operation.
  • Crossover Placement: Securing the crossover in a location free from excessive moisture and window mechanisms helps protect this sensitive electronic component from damage.

The warranty information provided at the end of the document states that Maxxsonics USA Inc. warrants the product to be free from defects in material and workmanship for one year from the purchase date. This implies that any issues arising from manufacturing defects within this period would be covered, suggesting a level of expected durability and quality. Users are advised to retain their original receipt for warranty claims. The warranty specifically excludes incidental or consequential damages, emphasizing the importance of proper installation to avoid issues not covered by the warranty.
