This document provides installation and user instructions for a High Pointe Range Hood, specifically models 50F11, 55F11, and 60F11. It is designed for horizontal outlet ventilation and operates on a 12Volt DC power supply.
Function Description:
The range hood is primarily designed for general ventilating use, intended to exhaust cooking fumes and odors from the kitchen to the outside. It is crucial not to use this fan to exhaust hazardous or explosive materials or vapors. The device helps maintain air quality in the kitchen by removing grease, smoke, and steam generated during cooking. Proper installation and maintenance are essential for its effective and safe operation.
Important Technical Specifications:
- Models Covered: 50F11, 55F11, 60F11
- Power Supply: 12Volt DC
- Rated Amps: 1.2A
- Motor Input Power: 12W
- Lamp Power: 1.5W
- Rated Total Power: 13.5W
- Minimum Distance from Cooking Surface: 20 inches
- Maximum Distance from Cooking Surface: 30 inches
- Ductwork: Must be metal ductwork. Exhaust air must be ducted to the outside and not into walls, ceilings, attics, crawl spaces, or garages.
- Duct Extension: If total wall thickness requires it, use C0157.
- Lamp Bulb (for 12VDC Recreational vehicle fan units): Trade #912 or #921 bulb. (Note: For 120VAC fan units, 40 watt or less lamp bulb is specified, but this manual covers 12VDC models).
Usage Features:
The range hood is operated via a control panel that includes a switch and a knob. The main components of the device are:
- Body groupware
- Switch
- Lamp
- Knob
- Impeller
- Motor
- Grease filter
For optimal performance and safety, users are advised to:
- Always turn the hood ON when cooking at high heat or when flambéing food.
- Never leave surface units unattended at high settings to prevent boil-overs that can cause smoking and greasy spillovers, which may ignite.
- Heat oils slowly on low or medium settings.
- Use proper pan size, ensuring cookware is appropriate for the size of the surface element.
- Ensure sufficient air is available for proper combustion and exhausting of gases from fuel-burning equipment to prevent back-drafting. This requires adherence to heating equipment manufacturer's guidelines and safety standards (e.g., NFPA, ASHRAE).
- Before operating, ensure the exterior wall vent damper (if supplied) is in the open position.
- Do not use the fan with any solid-state speed control device.
Maintenance Features:
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and safe operation of the range hood. Key maintenance tasks include:
- Cleaning Ventilating Fans: Fans should be cleaned frequently to prevent grease accumulation on the fan or filter.
- Grease Filter Cleaning: Always replace the filter after cleaning it in a mild detergent solution.
- Fan Blade Cleaning: After disconnecting power, wipe the fan blade with a moist cloth or sponge to remove dirt buildup.
- Lamp Bulb: Never attempt to clean the lamp bulb while it is hot. Replace with the specified bulb type (#912 or #921 for 12VDC units).
- Wiring and Ductwork Inspection: Periodically verify that the blower housing and ductwork are free of debris and that the fan blade spins freely.
- Safety Disconnect: Before servicing or cleaning the unit, switch power off at the service panel and lock the service disconnecting means to prevent accidental power-on. If locking is not possible, securely fasten a prominent warning device (e.g., a tag) to the service panel.
Safety Warnings and Precautions:
The manual emphasizes several critical safety warnings to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons:
- Installation: All installation work and electrical wiring must be performed by qualified personnel in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including fire-related construction.
- Ductwork: Use only metal ductwork. Do not vent exhaust air into enclosed spaces.
- Wall/Ceiling Penetration: When cutting into walls or ceilings, avoid damaging electrical wiring and other hidden utilities.
- Grease Fires:
- In case of a range top grease fire, SMOTHER FLAMES with a close-fitting lid, cookie sheet, or metal tray, then turn off the burner.
- BE CAREFUL TO PREVENT BURNS. If flames persist, EVACUATE AND CALL THE FIRE DEPARTMENT.
- NEVER PICK UP A FLAMING PAN!
- DO NOT USE WATER, as it can cause a violent steam explosion.
- Use an ABC class extinguisher only if you know how to operate it, the fire is small and contained, the fire department is being called, and you can fight the fire with your back to an exit.
- Debris Prevention: Do not allow insulation, ceiling finishing materials, roofing materials, or other debris to enter the fan housing or ductwork, as motor failures due to debris are not covered by warranty.
- Manufacturer Contact: If there are any questions regarding the unit's use or operation, contact the manufacturer.
