Overview

The Hills Garden Pressure Sprayer is a domestic-use, water-based garden chemical sprayer available in 4, 5, 7, and 8-liter models. It is designed for applying a broad range of domestic water-based herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, and fertilizers. The sprayer features legendary Australian ingenuity, an ergonomic handle with a lockable continuous flow feature, and a safety valve that prevents manual over-pumping. The bottle is UV stabilized for Australian conditions, ensuring durability and longevity.

Function Description:

The sprayer operates by manually pumping to build pressure within the bottle, which then forces the liquid out through the lance and nozzle when the trigger is pressed. It is designed to operate at 40 P.S.I. (275 kPa), with a safety valve that lifts and shows a red indicator when full pressure is reached, releasing excess pressure to prevent over-pressurization. The trigger handle includes an on/off trigger and a trigger lock for continuous spraying, allowing for extended use without constant finger pressure. Two nozzles are included: one for a cone spray pattern and another for a strip spray pattern, enabling users to choose the most suitable pattern for their specific spraying application. An identification tag system is also provided, allowing users to quickly and easily identify the substance inside the sprayer, with pre-printed inserts for common chemicals and blank inserts for personalized tags.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Capacity: Available in 4, 5, 7, and 8-liter models.
  • Operating Pressure: Designed to operate at 40 P.S.I. (275 kPa).
  • Bottle Material: UV stabilized plastic.
  • Maximum Bottle Life: Under normal use and conditions, the sprayer bottle has a maximum life of five (5) years from the purchase date.
  • Nozzles: Includes one cone spray nozzle and one strip spray nozzle.
  • Safety Features: Safety valve for pressure release, ergonomic handle with lockable continuous flow.

Usage Features:

  • Before Use:
    • Rinse the inside of the bottle with cold water.
    • Familiarize yourself with the sprayer by testing with water only.
    • Remove the internal pump assembly by unscrewing the container cap.
    • Fill liquid to the required level, ensuring not to exceed the "MAXIMUM FILLING" level.
    • Insert the internal pump assembly and firmly tighten the container cap by hand.
    • Ensure the safety valve and hose retainer cap are tight to prevent air escaping.
    • Firmly screw the lance assembly to the trigger handle.
    • Inspect all fittings for wear or damage before each use.
  • Operation:
    • Pump the sprayer until the safety valve opens and vents, indicating full pressure. The red indicator will become visible.
    • Pump periodically to maintain constant spraying pressure.
    • Lock the pump handle into the container cap for easy carrying or use with the supplied strap.
    • Press the on/off trigger to start spraying.
    • To lock the trigger for continuous spraying, press the trigger and slide the trigger lock forward. To unlock, slide the trigger lock back and release the trigger.
    • Turn the nozzle to obtain the desired spray pattern (cone or strip).
  • After Use:
    • Release pressure from the bottle by slowly pulling up and holding the safety valve until all air is released. Do not release pressure by unscrewing the container cap.
    • Unscrew the container cap and carefully dispose of any remaining liquid.
    • To clean, rinse the bottle, then fill with clean water to the 2L level, pressurize, and allow it to empty.
  • Storage:
    • Ensure the sprayer is not pressurized and contains no liquid.
    • Store away from direct sunlight and out of reach of children.
  • Substance Identification Tag:
    • Open the folding lid by unclipping the two side snaps.
    • Fit the required insert with the text facing upwards.
    • Snap the folding lid back into the closed position to secure. Use a permanent marker for blank inserts to prevent writing from coming off.

Maintenance Features:

  • Regular Cleaning: Rinse the bottle, attachments, and hands thoroughly after use.
  • Addressing Residue Build-up: If chemicals leave residue that normal cleaning doesn't remove, half-fill the bottle with hot (not boiling) water, pressurize, and spray for a few minutes. The hot water should dissolve the residue, allowing the sprayer to operate normally. Do not leave the sprayer unattended during this operation.
  • Spare Parts:
    • 0100710 - Nozzle and Lance Kit: For replacing the nozzle and lance assembly.
    • 0100711 - Service Kit: Includes bucket washer, pump valve, bucket support washer, valve plunger, valve cap seal, safety valve, and O-ring for routine maintenance and repair of internal components.
  • Accessories:
    • 0100709 - Cone Spray Shield and Cup: For more controlled spraying.
    • 0100708 - Lawn Edger Shield: For precise application along lawn edges.
  • Warranty Returns: If the sprayer needs to be returned for warranty purposes, thoroughly wash it out to protect service technicians from exposure to unknown substances.
  • Safety Valve Test: Fill the bottle to the maximum level with clean water. Pressurize by pumping a few times. The valve should lift, allowing the red indicator to become visible and air to escape. If this does not happen, replace the safety valve.
  • Fittings Inspection: Inspect the condition of all fittings before each use. Replace worn or damaged parts. Hand tighten fittings only; do not use pliers or other tools.
