This document describes the HKS LAZAR HTi20 inverter heat pump, an air-to-water heat pump designed for outdoor installation to provide heating for closed central heating systems and domestic hot water. It utilizes R290 propane as a natural refrigerant, emphasizing its eco-friendly design with zero ozone depletion potential (ODP) and a negligible global warming effect (GWP) of 3. The heat pump is designed for high energy efficiency, achieving an A+++/A++ energy class rating for low/high temperature operation.
Function Description
The HKS LAZAR HTi20 heat pump operates by transferring energy from the outside air (lower heat source) into the building. During operation, the refrigerant inside the evaporator absorbs heat from the ambient air, increasing its temperature. This heated refrigerant then flows into the compressor, where its temperature and pressure are further increased. The hot, high-pressure refrigerant then transfers its heat to the heating water within the condenser. After releasing heat, the refrigerant passes through an expansion valve, where its pressure and temperature decrease, returning to the evaporator to repeat the cycle. A circulating pump ensures the flow of heated water into the building's heating system. The heat pump can also generate chilled water for space cooling, provided the system is designed with low-temperature resistant materials and uses a propylene glycol solution to prevent icing.
The system is designed to be coupled with low-output heating systems, such as underfloor heating or wall radiators, to ensure efficient operation, especially during colder periods. It can also be integrated with a domestic hot water (DHW) storage tank, requiring a specially designed tank with an appropriate heat exchange surface to efficiently transfer the heat pump's output.

Usage Features
- Outdoor Installation: The heat pump is designed exclusively for outdoor installation on a foundation or external wall, with appropriate vibration dampeners.
- Condensate Management: A drip tray collects condensate, which must be discharged via a drain pipe into the soil or a fixture drain. Protection against freezing of the condensate drain is crucial.
- Safety Zones: Strict adherence to safety distances from walls, windows, doors, and ventilation openings is required, especially due to the flammable R290 refrigerant. A protection zone free from ignition sources must be maintained around the device.
- Cooling Mode: When used for cooling, the system must be filled with a propylene glycol solution, and the icing water temperature must remain above 7°C. A condensation sensor and flow-meter are recommended.
- Swimming Pool Connection: Direct connection to a swimming pool system is not allowed; a heat exchanger and other necessary components must be installed.
- Water Quality: The heating system should be filled with clean, colorless water without additives. Desalted water is recommended to prevent scale and corrosion, following VDI 2035 guidelines.
- Glycol Solution: If glycol is used (e.g., for cooling or frost protection), a 15-30% propylene glycol solution is recommended. This may reduce output by 10-15%, requiring a 10% increase in medium flow.
- Back-up Supply: The HTi20 can be fitted with a back-up power pack and NC relay to provide PC protection against freezing during power failures.
Maintenance Features
- Regular Checks: Regular checks for dirt, deposits, and scale are recommended. Before cleaning, the power supply must be turned off.
- Cleaning: Casing components should be cleaned with a wet cloth and mild detergents. Abrasive agents, acids, chlorine, sand, or soda are prohibited as they can damage the casing.
- Evaporator Cleaning: The evaporator must be checked for contamination (leaves, grass, dust) and cleaned carefully. Snow covering the roof must be removed. Pressurized water is not allowed for cleaning.
- Annual Inspection: An annual inspection by HKS LAZAR authorized service is mandatory to maintain the guarantee. This includes checking the heat pump's operation, cleaning, and inspecting the condensate drain for blockages.
- Pre-commissioning: The initial start-up and setup must be performed by HKS LAZAR authorized service. The user must report readiness for pre-commissioning within 14 days if the initial attempt fails due to site conditions.
- Troubleshooting: Any defects or failures must be reported immediately to the manufacturer. Repairs during the guarantee period must be performed by HKS LAZAR authorized service.
- Disposal: Components must be transported to a licensed waste collection center for proper disposal and recycling. Refrigerant recovery and disposal must be performed by trained professionals, adhering to environmental protection regulations.
The manual emphasizes that any use or operation inconsistent with its provisions will void the guarantee. It also highlights the importance of professional installation and maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation of the heat pump.
