CHQ-BS - Programming Lead Instructions
General Description
The enclosed lead must be used for addressing
CHQ-BS if they are selected as Wall Sounders.
Operation-Address Setting
To program a CHQ-BS connect the black croc
clips to the left hand terminal on the TCH-B100
address programmer and to the C terminal of the
Base Sounder and the red croc clips to the right
hand terminal of the TCH-B100 address
programmer and to the L terminal on the Base
Sounder. The address can now be programmed in
the same way as an ASX range sensor. Please
note that when programming CHQ-BS the
maximum address permissible is 254. CHQ-
BS/Control Panel instructions should be
checked for address range.
Caution
q Only to be used with Hochiki Loop devices.
q Do not short croc clips together.
q Remove from programmer when not in use.
q Disconnect Sounders from the loop before
programming.

CHQ-BS Programming Lead Instructions

General Description

Explains the lead's function for CHQ-BS if they are selected as Wall Sounders.

Operation-Address Setting

Details connecting the lead to a programmer and sounder for address setting, noting a max address of 254.

Overview

This document describes the CHQ-BS Programming Lead (PL1) for addressing Hochiki CHQ-BS devices, particularly when configured as Wall Sounders.

Function Description

The CHQ-BS Programming Lead is a specialized cable designed to facilitate the addressing of Hochiki CHQ-BS Base Sounders using the TCH-B100 address programmer. This lead ensures correct electrical connection between the programmer and the sounder, allowing the assignment of a unique address to the device within a fire detection loop. The CHQ-BS devices, when used as Wall Sounders, require this specific lead for programming.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Maximum Address Permissible: When programming CHQ-BS devices, the maximum address that can be assigned is 254. It is crucial to consult the CHQ-BS/Control Panel instructions for specific address range requirements and compatibility.
  • Compatibility: The programming lead is designed exclusively for use with Hochiki Loop devices.
  • Lead Configuration: The lead features two sets of croc clips:
    • Black Clips: Connect to the left-hand terminal on the TCH-B100 address programmer and to the 'C' terminal of the Base Sounder.
    • Red Clips: Connect to the right-hand terminal on the TCH-B100 address programmer and to the 'L' terminal of the Base Sounder.
  • Manufacturer: Hochiki Europe (UK) Limited.
  • Document Reference: DSO174/ISS1/FEB 1998.
  • Product Code: 2-3-0-325.

Usage Features

The programming process involves a straightforward connection sequence:

  1. Connect Black Clips: Attach the black croc clips to the left-hand terminal of the TCH-B100 address programmer. Then, connect the other end of the black clips to the 'C' terminal on the CHQ-BS Base Sounder.
  2. Connect Red Clips: Attach the red croc clips to the right-hand terminal of the TCH-B100 address programmer. Subsequently, connect the other end of the red clips to the 'L' terminal on the CHQ-BS Base Sounder.
  3. Program Address: Once the connections are established, the address can be programmed using the TCH-B100 programmer in the same manner as an ASX range sensor.
  4. Address Range: Remember that the maximum permissible address for CHQ-BS devices is 254. Always verify the required address range with the specific CHQ-BS and control panel documentation.

Maintenance Features

While the document does not detail specific maintenance for the lead itself, it provides crucial cautions for safe and effective use, which can be considered aspects of operational maintenance:

  • Exclusive Use: The lead must only be used with Hochiki Loop devices to prevent damage or malfunction.
  • Avoid Short Circuits: Users must ensure that the croc clips do not short circuit together, as this could damage the programmer or the device.
  • Removal from Programmer: When the lead is not in use, it should be removed from the programmer to prevent accidental activation or wear.
  • Disconnect Sounders from Loop: Before initiating any programming, it is imperative to disconnect the sounders from the main fire detection loop. This prevents interference with the system and ensures accurate programming.

Adhering to these cautions will help prolong the life of the programming lead and ensure the safe and correct addressing of CHQ-BS devices. The CHQ-BS Programming Lead (PL1) is a dedicated tool from Hochiki, a "World Class Leader in Fire Detection for over 80 years," manufactured in the U.K., emphasizing its quality and specialized purpose within fire safety systems.
