FUEL cont.
Overlling
Overlling of the fuel tank can affect the evaporative emission control system and can
also result in a smell of fuel inside the vehicle, therefore:
Petrol tanks should always be lled at the intermediate or fast ll rate. Do not add
any more petrol after the petrol ller rst clicks off or petrol blows back, as this
allows room for the petrol to expand inside the tank.
It is only permissible to ‘trickle ll’ petrol tanks when the vehicle is to be driven
for more than 50 km immediately after the tank is lled. However, this is not
recommended on days over 30 °C.
Wipe off any overowing petrol immediately from the vehicle and ret the fuel cap;
spray or splash with water.
Fuel ller nozzle restrictor for petrol engines
To help protect the atmosphere, your vehicle has been designed to operate on unleaded
petrol. A petrol nozzle restrictor is tted to ensure that only unleaded petrol is used.
This allows the smaller diameter unleaded petrol nozzle to open the hinged ap inside
the ller neck, so that petrol can be added to the tank. The leaded petrol nozzle is wider
and therefore can not open the ap.
