To check engine coolant level
The level of engine coolant should be
checked weekly. This is simply a matter
of looking at the level in the plastic
container, called the radiator reservoir
tank. Replenish the radiator reservoir
tank as necessary.
When the engine is cool, if the level of
the coolant in the radiator reservoir tank
is found to be lower than the MIN line,
check the cooling system for leaks, then
replenish to bring the level up to the
MAX line.
WARNING
• Only use specied coolant (refer to Specications in chapter 8). Do not mix
different coolants as this may damage your engine cooling system.
•
Always check the coolant level when the engine is cold. Steam and scalding
liquids from a hot cooling system can blow out and cause serious burns.
•
Do not over ll the radiator reservoir tank.
• Remove the radiator reservoir tank ller cap only.
To add engine coolant
If the radiator reservoir tank requires topping up, rst pre-mix a solution of 50 % coolant
(refer to Specications in chapter 8) and 50 % clean water.
Ensure the ignition is switched off.
Undo the cap on the top of the radiator reservoir tank, add the pre-mixed solution and
secure the cap.
Failure to use the engine coolant meeting Holden’s specication or maintaining the
specied concentration may result in voiding of your warranty.
In emergency situations, plain water may be used temporarily until the correct engine
coolant is obtained as soon as possible from the nearest Holden Dealer.
The specied engine coolant works in three ways: using special corrosion inhibitors
helps the cooling system in hot weather by increasing the boiling point and protects
against freezing down to -30 °C providing the correct concentration is maintained.
If you regularly have to top up the cooling system, you should contact your Holden
Dealer.
WARNING
Corrosion inhibitors and antifreeze uids are poisonous. Use extreme care when
handling. If swallowed seek immediate medical attention.
If the engine overheats, refer to Engine overheating in chapter 6.
