Overview

This document describes the Holmes Compact Heater Fan, available in models HFH110, HFH111, HFH111T, and WF110. This device functions as a portable electric heater and fan, designed for household use to provide supplemental warmth or air circulation.

Function Description:

The Holmes Compact Heater Fan is designed to heat a room or provide fan-only operation. It utilizes a ceramic heating element for efficient warmth and incorporates safety features to prevent overheating. The device is intended for indoor use and should be plugged directly into a 120V AC electrical outlet. It is not suitable for use in bathrooms, laundry areas, or similar indoor locations where it might come into contact with water. The heater is equipped with a polarized plug for safety, ensuring proper electrical connection.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Wattage: 1500W (+5%-15%)
  • Working Voltage: 120V AC/60Hz
  • Safety Features:
    • Auto Safety Shut-Off with Ceramic Control: This is a patented, technologically advanced safety system that automatically shuts off the heater if a potential overheat temperature is reached. The user must manually reset the unit for it to resume operation.
    • Tip-over Shut-off (for HFH111T only): This feature automatically shuts off the unit if it is accidentally knocked over. To reset, the heater must be placed in an upright position on a level surface.
    • Polarized Plug: The device comes with a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) to reduce the risk of electric shock. It should fit into the power outlet only one way. If it doesn't fit, the plug should be reversed. If it still doesn't fit, a qualified electrician should be contacted to install the proper outlet. The safety purpose of this plug should not be defeated.

Usage Features:

  • Controls:
    • Selector Control (for HFH110 & WF110): This control allows the user to select desired heat settings (LO or HI) or FAN-only operation.
    • Mode Control (for HFH111 & HFH111T): This control allows selection of LO, HI, or FAN settings.
    • Thermostat Control (for HFH111 & HFH111T): This feature allows users to set a desired room temperature. To use, set the thermostat to HI to start heating, allow the room to warm up, then lower the thermostat setting until the fan/heater stops operating. The unit will then automatically cycle ON and OFF to maintain the preset temperature.
  • Power Light: An indicator light remains lit during operation.
  • Pre-Operating Instructions:
    1. Carefully remove the heater from its box and save the carton for off-season storage.
    2. Ensure the unit is in the OFF position before plugging it into an outlet.
    3. Place the heater on a firm, level surface.
    4. Avoid overloading the circuit by not using other high-wattage appliances in the same outlet.
  • Resetting the Heater:
    • For HFH110 & WF110: If the unit shuts down, turn the MODE to OFF, unplug the unit, wait 10 minutes, then plug it in again and turn it ON.
    • For HFH111 & HFH111T: If the unit shuts down, turn MODE to OFF and THERMOSTAT to HI, unplug the unit, wait 10 minutes, then plug it in and turn it ON.
    • For Tip-over Shut-off (HFH111T only): Simply place the heater in an upright position on a level surface.
  • Safety Precautions:
    • Do not touch hot surfaces with bare skin. Use handles if provided when moving the heater.
    • Keep combustible materials (furniture, pillows, bedding, papers, clothes, curtains) at least 3 feet (0.9 m) from the front, sides, and rear of the heater.
    • Do not run the power cord under carpeting or cover it with throw rugs. Arrange the cord away from traffic areas to prevent tripping.
    • Always unplug the heater when not in use.
    • Pull by the plug, not the cord, when unplugging.
    • Do not insert foreign objects into ventilation or exhaust openings.
    • Do not operate the heater with a damaged cord or plug, or if it has malfunctioned or been damaged. Return it to the manufacturer for examination or repair.
    • Do not use the heater in areas where gasoline, paint, or flammable liquids are used or stored.
    • Do not block air intakes or exhaust in any manner. Do not use on soft surfaces like a bed where openings may become blocked.
    • If the plug or outlet becomes hot, discontinue use and consider replacing the outlet.
    • Avoid using an extension cord. If one must be used, it should be at least No. 14 AWG minimum size and rated not less than 1875 watts.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Always unplug the heater before cleaning.
    • Lightly run a vacuum cleaner nozzle over the heater grill to remove dust or dirt.
    • Wipe the heater with a soft, damp cloth. Be cautious near the motor and heating elements.
    • NEVER use abrasive or flammable solvents to clean the heater.
    • After cleaning, ensure the heater is completely dry with a cloth or towel.
  • Storage: Store the heater in its original carton in a cool, dry location during the off-season.
  • Troubleshooting: If the heater fails to operate, unplug it and check:
    • If the electrical outlet and circuit breaker are working.
    • For obstructions. If found, turn OFF, unplug, remove the obstruction, and follow the reset instructions.
    • The thermostat setting (for HFH111 & HFH111T) might be too low; turn the dial clockwise until the heater restarts.
    • The Mode Control is in Lo or Hi setting.
  • Service: Do not attempt to open or repair the heater yourself, as it will void the warranty. All servicing should be performed by qualified personnel. For service instructions or questions, contact the Consumer Services Department at 1-800-5-HOLMES.
