The Holmes HM630 Series Cool Mist Tower Humidifier is designed to add invisible moisture to dry indoor air, improving comfort and health. This appliance utilizes a cool mist humidification system, drawing dry air through a rear air intake grill and passing it through a moisture-laden wick filter. This filter retains minerals and deposits from the water, and the resulting moist air is then directed back into the room from the top air grill. It's important to note that the moisture output is invisible, so it's normal not to see a visible mist. The recommended humidity level for optimal comfort and health is between 40% and 50%.
Before operating the humidifier, users must read and save all important safety instructions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury. The appliance should be plugged directly into a 120V AC electrical outlet. The cord must be kept out of heavy traffic areas and never placed under rugs or near heat registers. The humidifier should not be placed near heat sources like stoves, radiators, or heaters, but rather on an inside wall, at least 4 inches (10 cm) away from the wall for best results. It should never be placed in an area accessible to children or in a closed room where a child may be sleeping, resting, or playing, as this can lead to excessive humidity.
Users are warned not to attempt to refill the humidifier without first unplugging it from the electrical outlet. The unit should never be tilted, moved, or emptied while operating. It should be shut off and unplugged before removing the water tank or moving the unit. Nothing should ever be placed over the moisture outlet while the unit is running, and no objects should be dropped or inserted into any openings. The appliance should not be operated with a damaged cord or plug, or if it has malfunctioned, been dropped, or damaged. In such cases, it should be returned to the manufacturer for examination, adjustment, or repair.
The humidifier is intended for household use only, and any other use not recommended by the manufacturer may cause fire, electric shock, or injury. Attachments not recommended or sold by the manufacturer should not be used. The unit is not designed for outdoor use. It must always be placed on a firm, flat, level surface, and a waterproof mat or pad is recommended underneath. It should never be placed on a rug, carpet, or a finished floor that could be damaged by water or moisture. The moisture outlet should not directly face a wall, as this could cause damage, especially to wallpaper. The humidifier should be unplugged when not in use.
Daily and weekly maintenance is required for appropriate operation. Only cleaners and additives recommended by the manufacturer should be used. Detergents, gasoline, glass cleaner, furniture polish, paint thinner, or other household solvents should never be used to clean any part of the humidifier. If excessive humidity causes water condensation on windows and furniture, the humidifier should be turned OFF. The humidifier should not be used in areas where humidity levels exceed 50%; a hygrometer can be used to measure humidity. Users should not attempt to repair or adjust any electrical or mechanical functions, as this will void the warranty. The unit contains no user-serviceable parts, and all servicing should be performed by qualified personnel. The housing should never be placed under water flow or immersed in liquids.
The appliance features a polarized plug (one blade wider than the other) to reduce the risk of electric shock. This plug is designed to fit into a polarized outlet only one way. If it doesn't fit fully, the plug should be reversed. If it still doesn't fit, a qualified electrician should be contacted to install the proper outlet. Users should not attempt to modify the plug or defeat this safety feature.
Before use, ensure the humidifier is switched to OFF and disconnected from the electrical outlet. Select a flat surface location, about 4 inches (10 cm) away from the wall. Avoid placing it on finished floors or near furniture that could be damaged by moisture. A moisture-resistant surface is recommended.
The HM630 Series humidifier is equipped with an AccuSet Plus™ Digital Humidistat, allowing users to run it continuously in manual mode or set a desired humidity level between 30% and 65% relative humidity. The humidistat automatically turns the humidifier ON or OFF based on the preset comfort level.
To use the AccuSet Plus™ Digital Humidistat, press the power button until the speed is set to AUTO HIGH (A3), AUTO MEDIUM (A2), or AUTO LOW (A1). Adjust the set humidity using the up and down buttons, increasing or decreasing in 5% increments. Once set, the display returns to current room humidity. The humidifier will stop if room humidity rises above the set level and turn on automatically if it drops below the set level. Allow up to 30 minutes for the filter to fully absorb water and for the unit to produce moisture. The AccuSet Plus™ Humidifier has memory, so it will return to the last setting when turned back on. If the humidifier won't be used for two or more days, drain all residual water from the tank, base, and wick filter to prevent algae or bacteria growth.
The Auto On/Off timer offers two options: setting a time to turn the unit off or setting a time to turn it on.
While the unit is running, activate the off timer by holding down the up and down buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds. The screen will flash "00". Use the up and down arrows to adjust the timer up to 16 hours in 1-hour increments. After 16 hours, the next push cycles back to "00" hours. An LED indicates the timer is on. The unit will shut off after the timer expires. The timer will shut off if other modes are changed. It should only be deactivated if the unit is turned off.
While the unit is off, press the up and down buttons simultaneously for 2 seconds. The display will flash "00". The up button can then be pushed to increase the hours to turn on (in its last setting) from 1-16 hours in 1-hour increments. The unit will come on after the timer expires. If the unit is then turned on, the timer will be deactivated. An LED indicates the timer is activated. After 16 hours, the next push cycles back to "00" hours. The Auto On Timer only activates when the room humidity is below 30%.
Over time, waterborne minerals and sediment become trapped in the wick filter. The harder the water, the more frequently the filter will need to be changed. The FilterCheck® Indicator monitors filter life. After 30 minutes of use, the FilterCheck® Indicator will move to show filter condition. A new filter will register in the "GOOD filter" section. After frequent use, the indicator will show when filters need to be changed (see Figure 2). When the needle is in the "CHANGE" section, it means insufficient moisture is entering the air due to excessive minerals and sediment on the filters, and the filter should be replaced to maintain stated performance.
Replacement filters (model HWF100-UC2/HWF100 – 2 filters) can be purchased from local retailers, by calling 1-800-546-5637, or by visiting www.holmesproducts.com. It is recommended to have a replacement filter for uninterrupted use.
Proper maintenance and cleaning are essential for the humidifier's continued performance and to prevent algae or bacteria build-up.
