Overview

This document is an operator's manual for a Homelite 26cc Blower/Vacuum, model numbers UT26BVL3 and UT26BVL3EMC. It provides comprehensive information on the device's function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Homelite 26cc Blower/Vacuum is a versatile outdoor power tool designed for both blowing and vacuuming tasks. As a blower, it is used for clearing leaves and other debris from lawns, decks, and driveways. In vacuum mode, it can collect and mulch leaves and other forms of debris. The unit is powered by a 26cc 2-cycle engine, requiring a pre-mixed gasoline and 2-cycle lubricant fuel.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Engine Displacement: 26cc
  • Blowing Performance (at Nozzle Outlet):
    • Sweeper Nozzle: 150 MPH / 400 CFM
    • High Velocity Nozzle: 200 MPH / 150 CFM
  • Fuel Type: Unleaded gasoline containing up to 10% ethanol. E15 or E85 fuels are explicitly prohibited as they can damage the unit and void the warranty.
  • Fuel Mixture: Requires a pre-mix of unleaded gasoline (87 octane or higher) and high-quality 2-cycle engine lubricant. Recommended mix ratios are 2.6 oz (76 ml) of lubricant per 1.0 gal (3.8 liter) of gasoline, or 6.4 oz (189 ml) of lubricant per 2.5 gal (9.5 liter) of gasoline. Automotive or 2-cycle outboard lubricants are not to be used.
  • Spark Plug: Ryobi AC00160A, Champion RCJ-6Y, or equivalent with a 0.025 in. electrode gap.
  • Altitude Operation: The engine is factory-configured for operation below 2,000 feet altitude. Reconfiguration by a qualified service center is required for operation above 2,000 feet to prevent increased emissions, decreased fuel efficiency, degraded performance, and irreversible damage.

Usage Features:

The blower/vacuum is designed for ease of use and versatility.

  • Blower Tube and Sweeper Nozzle: The blower tube and sweeper nozzle can be assembled and installed without tools. The sweeper nozzle is designed to cover a wider area during blowing, making it effective for larger piles of leaves and debris.
  • High Velocity Nozzle: This attachment is ideal for wet, sticky leaves and allows for scraping debris from hard surfaces. It attaches to the sweeper nozzle.
  • Throttle Trigger and Cruise Control Lever/Throttle Lock: The unit can be operated at variable speeds from idle to full throttle using the throttle trigger. The cruise control lever/throttle lock allows the user to maintain a desired engine speed without continuously holding the throttle trigger. Pushing the lever forward slows the engine.
  • Vacuum/Mulcher Functionality: The blower can be converted to a vacuum/mulcher using a flat head screwdriver. This involves removing the blower tubes and installing the vacuum tubes and vacuum bag.
  • Vacuum Bag and Adaptor: The vacuum bag easily attaches to the blower using a vacuum bag adaptor. The bag should be fully zipped before operation to prevent flying debris.
  • Vacuum Handle: A dedicated handle is provided for comfortable vacuuming.
  • Vacuum Tubes: The vacuum tubes are installed on the blower using a flat head screwdriver.
  • Operating Positions: Specific instructions are provided for proper operating positions in both blower and vacuum modes, emphasizing keeping the muffler and hot surfaces away from the body.
  • Safety Precautions: The manual stresses the importance of wearing eye and hearing protection, keeping bystanders at least 50 feet away, and avoiding loose clothing or long hair that could be drawn into rotating parts. It also warns against operating the unit without all guards and tubes in place, and against inserting objects into the blower or vacuum tubes.
  • Fueling Safety: Detailed instructions are given for safe fueling, including refueling outdoors, avoiding smoking, and wiping up spills immediately.
  • Environmental Considerations: Users are encouraged to operate the blower at the lowest possible throttle speed, use rakes and brooms to loosen debris, and dampen dusty surfaces. The product is intended for infrequent use by homeowners and occasional users, with a warning about potential circulatory problems from prolonged vibration.

Maintenance Features:

Regular maintenance is crucial for the product's proper functioning, longevity, and compliance with emission regulations.

  • General Maintenance: Avoid using solvents on plastic parts. Inspect the product before each use for damaged, missing, or loose parts.
  • Air Filter Cleaning: The air filter cover can be removed by turning a dial counterclockwise. The filter should be rinsed with clean water, squeezed dry, and reinstalled.
  • Exhaust Port, Muffler, and Spark Arrestor Cleaning: Carbon deposits can accumulate in the exhaust port, muffler, and spark arrestor, affecting performance. The spark arrestor should be cleaned or replaced every 50 hours or annually. Users are advised to contact a qualified service center for this service. The product is equipped with a catalyst muffler for environmental protection.
  • Spark Plug Replacement: The spark plug should be replaced annually.
  • Fuel System Maintenance: The fuel cap contains a non-serviceable filter and check valve. If performance improves when the fuel cap is loosened, the check valve or filter may be faulty, requiring fuel cap replacement.
  • Storage: For storage of 1 month or longer, the fuel tank should be drained into an approved container, and the engine run until it stops. The unit should be stored indoors in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from corrosive agents and inaccessible to children.
  • Maintenance Schedule: A detailed table outlines the frequency of inspection, cleaning, and replacement for various components, including the catalytic muffler assembly (spark screen), air filter assembly, carburetor assembly (gaskets), fuel tank assembly (fuel lines, fuel cap, fuel filter), and ignition assembly (spark plug).
  • Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive troubleshooting section helps users diagnose and resolve common issues such as engine failure to start, hard starting, lack of power, and overheating.
  • Warranty Information: The product comes with a Two-year Limited Warranty for personal, family, or household use, and a 90-day warranty for business or commercial use. Warranty details are available online or by phone.
  • Parts Ordering/Service: Contact information for Homelite service dealers is provided for parts and service assistance. Users are advised to provide item, manufacturing, and serial numbers when seeking support.
