Overview

This document describes HondaLink, a system that provides useful information about your vehicle directly from Honda. It details the connection process, available features, and the HondaLink Assist function.

Function Description:

HondaLink is an integrated system designed to enhance the driving experience by connecting your vehicle with your smartphone and providing various services. It offers access to vehicle information, location-based services, and emergency assistance. The system leverages your smartphone's capabilities and a Bluetooth HandsFreeLink connection to deliver its features. For vehicles with Display Audio, HondaLink integrates seamlessly into the infotainment system.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Connectivity: HondaLink primarily connects via Bluetooth HandsFreeLink for most features. If an active connection to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto is present, HondaLink can only be connected through Wi-Fi.
  • Compatibility: To check phone compatibility, users are directed to automobiles.honda.com/handsfreelink. Standard data rates may apply depending on the user's phone service provider.
  • Application: The system requires the HondaLink Connect app to be downloaded on a compatible smartphone.
  • Data Collection: Certain features of HondaLink require the user to send vehicle information to Honda. This includes diagnostic and location data, which may be tied to the vehicle's VIN. Honda states this information is used to improve the quality of their products and services. Users have options to "Enable Once," "Always Enable," or "Cancel" this data sharing. The selection can be changed later under the Info Settings Menu.
  • Emergency Services (HondaLink Assist): This feature is activated if the vehicle's airbags deploy or if the unit detects a severe impact. It automatically attempts to connect to an operator. For this to function, the phone must be paired to the system and have a good cellular connection. Depending on the phone and cellular signal capability, the vehicle's location may or may not be sent to the operator. Honda reserves the right to terminate HondaLink Assist services at any time or for any reason, and may not be able to provide services in the future due to changes in technology or governmental regulation.

Usage Features:

  1. Download App: Users must first download the HondaLink Connect app on their compatible smartphone.
  2. Pair Phone: The smartphone needs to be paired with the vehicle's Bluetooth HandsFreeLink system.
  3. Select HondaLink: From the vehicle's HOME screen, the user selects "HondaLink."
  4. Data Sharing Consent: The system will prompt the user regarding sending vehicle information to Honda, offering "Enable Once," "Always Enable," or "Cancel" options.
  • Places*: This feature displays restaurants, gas stations, and other points of interest. Users can send a selected location to the navigation system and set a route.
  • Vehicle: Provides instructional messages related to vehicle service needs.
  • Help & Support: Offers tips for vehicle usage, access to roadside assistance, and customer service contact information.
  • Messages from Honda: Displays helpful and important information directly from Honda. A new message is indicated by a yellow envelope icon at the top of the screen and an audible beep. Messages can be viewed by swiping down from any screen.
  • Weather*: Provides a weekly five-day weather forecast for any specified location.
    • Note: Features marked with an asterisk (*) are "if equipped," suggesting they may not be available on all HondaLink-enabled vehicles.
  1. Phone Preparation: Ensure the phone is on and paired to Bluetooth HandsFreeLink.
  2. Initiate Call: After a crash detection, the system will initiate a countdown (e.g., 10 seconds) before automatically connecting to an operator. Users can also select "Call Now" to connect immediately. Vehicle information and its position are sent to the operator during this process.
  3. Speak to Operator: Select "Talk Now" to begin immediate communication with the operator.
  4. End Call: Once the call is complete, select "Hang Up" or press the Hang-Up/Back button on the steering wheel.

Maintenance Features:

The document does not explicitly detail user-performable maintenance features for HondaLink itself. However, it mentions:

  • Vehicle Instructional Messages: The "Vehicle" feature within the HondaLink menu provides instructional messages when the vehicle needs service, which can be considered a proactive maintenance notification.
  • Data Sharing Management: Users can change their data sharing selection (Enable Once, Always Enable, Cancel) later under the Info Settings Menu, allowing for management of privacy preferences.
  • System Updates: While not explicitly stated as a user-initiated feature, the mention of "changes in or obsolescence of technology integral to the service" implies that Honda may provide updates or changes to the service over time, which could include software updates for the HondaLink system.
