7.2 Recoil starter
a. Disassembly
[1] RECOIL STARTER ROPE
REASSEMBLY: Check the rope for fraying or wearing before installation.
[2] STARTER REEL
[3] RATCHET (2)
[4] REEL COVER
[5] FRICTION SPRING
[6] WASHER (STEEL)
[7] STARTER PIN
DISASSEMBLY: Place the reel cover on a base (shown below) securely, drive out the
starter pin using the pin driver as shown.
CAUTION:
• Take care not to damage the starter case and starter reel.

[7]-3 BASE
O.D. 35 - 40 mm
I.D. 20 - 30 mm
Height 30 mm or more
[8] WASHER (RESIN)
[9] RATCHET SPRING (2)
[10] RETURN SPRING
DISASSEMBLY: Be careful not to allow the spring to jump out. Release the spring
preload before removing the starter reel from the recoil starter case.
Wear heavy gloves to protect your hands.
