HR91 FAQ & Setup Guide
Intro:
What is HR91?
HR91 is our new wireless radiator valve working with Evohome Wifi. It’s was
developed for homeowners that will use their Evohome unit or their mobile as the
primary way to control and monitor their heating system, instead of interacting
directly with the radiator valve.
What is different between HR91 and HR92?
HR92 allows you local temperature adjustment through the dial and direct status
check via the display. With HR91 you can directly set the temperature to a
predefined set-point of 21°C or 5°C and you can check the status of the radiator
through LED indications. Also HR92 allows you modify different parameters
including: auto window fall/rise rate, valve stroke range, temperature offset and valve
position display.
Can I activate or deactivate the open window function?
Yes you can do it from the Evohome controller, with a default duration of 30 minutes.
Can I use the child-lock feature in HR91?
Yes you can activate it from the Evohome controller.

Overview

The Honeywell Home HR91 is a wireless radiator valve designed to work with Evohome Wifi systems, primarily controlled via the Evohome unit or a mobile application. It is intended for homeowners who prefer to manage their heating system remotely rather than through direct interaction with the radiator valve itself.

Function Description:

The HR91 serves as a wireless radiator valve that integrates with the Evohome Wifi system. Unlike its predecessor, the HR92, the HR91 focuses on remote control and monitoring. It allows users to set the temperature to a predefined set-point of 21°C (ON) or 5°C (OFF) using the device's buttons, with status indicated by LED lights. The Evohome controller or mobile app is the primary interface for more granular control and monitoring.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Wireless Connectivity: Works with Evohome Wifi.
  • Temperature Set-points: Predefined settings of 21°C (ON) and 5°C (OFF).
  • Status Indication: LED lights for various statuses including successful binding, low battery, mounting issues, and signal problems.
  • Battery Status: Indicated by a permanent amber LED for low battery (5 seconds) and critical battery (3 seconds, less than 2.1V, buttons locked).
  • Binding Duration: Binding mode lasts for 2 minutes.
  • Open Window Function: Can be activated/deactivated from the Evohome controller, with a default duration of 30 minutes.
  • Child-lock Feature: Can be activated from the Evohome controller.

Usage Features:

  • Binding to Evohome: To bind the HR91 to Evohome, press and hold the right button for 5 seconds until the right LED flashes orange. A permanent green LED indicates successful binding. The binding mode is active for 2 minutes.
  • Checking Valve Status: A short press of the right button on the TRV will display the device's status.
    • A green LED flash indicates the device is working properly.
    • A permanent orange LED indicates low battery levels.
    • A permanent red LED indicates a mounting issue.
    • A red LED flash indicates a signal issue (signal lost or not bound).
    • The Evohome controller also reactively provides the device's status.
  • Checking Signal Strength: Put the Evohome Controller in “RF COMMS CHECK” mode. Press and hold both TRV buttons for 5 seconds until both LEDs flash amber. This allows viewing the signal strength on the Evohome controller.
  • Clearing Binding: Press and hold the right button for 10 seconds. The right LED will flash RED once the binding is cleared.
  • Changing Temperature (Override):
    • Pressing the left button once sets the device to 5°C (OFF), and the left LED flashes orange.
    • Pressing the left button again sets the temperature to 21°C (ON), and the left LED flashes green.
    • These set-points remain until the next scheduled set-point from the Evohome controller or app.
    • This override button acts as a fail-safe mechanism for situations where access to Evohome or the mobile app is unavailable. For optimal comfort, temperature adjustments should primarily be made via Evohome or the mobile app.
  • Identifying Device's Zone Name: Once the device is bound, press the right button, and the zone's name will appear on the Evohome controller.
  • Turning Device OFF (5°C): Short press the on/off button. The left LED will flash amber for 5 seconds.
  • Turning Device ON (21°C): Short press the on/off button. The left LED will flash green for 5 seconds.
  • Unbinding the Device: Press the binding button for 10+ seconds. After 10 seconds, the LED will flash red for 10 seconds.
  • Signal Strength Check: When in RF Comms Check mode, hold both buttons for 5 seconds. Both LEDs will flash amber for up to 10 minutes.
  • Zone Identification: Short press the binding button. The right LED will flash green for 5 seconds.
  • Locked Device Check: Press both buttons to check if the TRV is locked. If locked, both LEDs will be red for 3 seconds.

Maintenance Features:

  • Battery Monitoring: The device provides visual cues for battery status. A permanent amber LED for 5 seconds indicates low battery. A permanent amber LED for 3 seconds (when batteries are critical, less than 2.1V) indicates that button functions are locked, signaling an urgent need for battery replacement.
  • Troubleshooting via LED Indicators: The various LED flash patterns and colors serve as a diagnostic tool for common issues such as binding problems, low battery, mounting errors, and signal loss, aiding in quick identification and resolution of problems.
  • Resetting Binding: The ability to clear the binding allows for re-pairing or troubleshooting connectivity issues.
